journal note in a poem
A chapter in the book NaPoWriMo 2020

I went to bed late and woke up early
The skies were grey,
No birds chirped or sang.
And I felt melancholy
As this pandemic seemed unholy;
This Orthodox Easter Weekend.

I couldn't eat breakfast
I couldn't drink coffee
And hours later,
I picked at takeout Chinese food
As I washed and dried some clothes
And thought about this Saturday.

I started to think about this Saturday
I started to think about my life
I sulked at thoughts about COVID19
I listened to an exorcist
I listened to President Trump
And called to talk with my dad.

I hung up the phone
As I realized it was evening.
I didn't know what to do.
I text talked online and took a nap.
I watched a televised concert;
Global Citizen was the sponsor.

Somehow,
I hope my words are flowing
Because I wrote this poem.

NOTE: This poem was actually written on Saturday, April 18th 2020. I was thinking about the date and events when we were placed into the Stay-At-Home for California (March 18, 19, 20, 21, 2020). A nursing home near me had more than a few cases and a couple deaths. A few reviewers edited my title, but I decided to leave it as is and write a readers note. Thanks for reading and understanding the error.

Day 18 - Write a poem about Saturday. The advised to write it in an Ode. But we are in a pandemic here. I can't be happy for anything, NaPoWriMo. Pffft.
