This is a sweet piece about love and the games involved in courting. You did a great job pulling parallels with both love and chess. I liked the length and flow as well. Well done.

Sergeant Floyd

An interesting twist of the game of chess. Using the game of chess and its rules of play, while incorporating the movement and strengths of the individual chess pieces as a metaphor for a romantic relationship that blossoms at the beginning and falters at the end is simply is brilliant. As an avid chess player myself I found this poem to be creative and insightful. As you probably already know, in the game of chess you must always play two or three moves ahead to win the game.

Great poem.

Thank you for sharing.

Excellent. I have played chess for years. Your interweaving of pieces and their functions with real life is great. And the aspect of comparing chess to the game of life is well done. By the way, my favorite piece is the knight, you can only defend it two ways; by capturing it or moving the threatened piece. You can't block it. Hugh

"the great game board of life", Very clever analogy. Life is complicated like a chees game and you need to know the rules to play well. Life's rule book is more complicated by love. We, at least me, are such fools for love.

A love story with an unfortunate end, by someone who knows his chess better than he does women.

An excellent metaphor, Sarge.

(Sorry about your loss.)

A very well-written love poem and taking a game of chess to see how easily we can fall for the right person who comes into our lives. Our mind is set on the goal and before we know we are overwhelmed.

Love a good game of chess.

Good effort managing to include every piece by name in the story, you even managed to insert the exotic moves of the rook and knight into play. Why not so for the bishop? Diagonal is a word you might well have been able to find a use for.

While we are on the subject, I'm sure there could've been a spot found in that final stanza for the term "Fool's Mate" - the 4-move fastest possible way to win a game (based on the white queen's vertical attack on the black King's bishop's pawn on F7, supported by the diagonal bishop on C4)

Clever use of the homonym "amour" (French - love) used where "armour" (defensive clothing) was expected.

I really enjoyed this poem! Chess is such a great metaphor for love! I adore your use throughout and specifically how you make reference to how the pieces move on the board -- rook see-sawing vertically then horizontally, the knight who jumped... two squares by three -- this is just so clever! The end is just so good... that the game is not played well by a fool in love with you! So creative, so well done!

I know nothing about chess but when I was at my in laws my nephew, who is six, started playing chess with my husband. A six year old playing chess? I definitely couldn't do it so my hat went off to him. It's a very complex game. My husband said he did let him win but he said for being six he did very well. It blew my mind that this six year even wanted to play it and he even knew some of the rules.
