Wendy,
I found your poem absolutely delightful. Your notes were very informative. Who knew that such a tiny lady could do so much. I have never heard the song before either. I guess my education is lacking. All I ever knew was that if a ladybug landed on you it meant good luck. Thank you for educating me. Who doesn't love a ladybug? Stay safe and healthy, Darlene

A belated thank you for the read and review. I seldom get to the kingdom these days but do peek in from time to time to see how everyone is doing. I think I just posted for the first time this year. I do love ladybugs and like to think of them as good luck now too. - Wendy

Dear Wendy,
You're welcome for the review. Like you I don't get to the kingdom often, so I am sorry for the tardiness.
Blessings,
Darlene

Very nice Wendy and very cleverly penned. I love your use of the word double - stalked them on the stalks
and gnats waylaid, wee eggs were laid
Great read, I'm sorry not to have a six for you.
cheers,

Thank you for the kind words and for pointing out what you particularly liked. It helps with the next one. I accept your virtual six and appreciate it. - Wendy

It's frying pan in the version I know and yes, ladybird downunder. This is brilliant. I especially like the fiends that feed on phlox. You have a wondrous way with words! I suspect the flowers' to be plural in the early line and so you might shift the apostrophe but then, maybe they were just defending ONE rose?

Thank you so much for taking the time to review my piece and the lovely sixer. Actually, I had planned to change "my flowers'" to "each flower's" to flow with the sound of "feast" Guess I only got it half right once I pasted from the draft. It's tough getting old. Thanks for the catch and the kind words. - Wendy

Your poem is loveliness personified and well-deserving of a sixer.
I liked the way you covered the ladybird's life cycle in smoothly rhyming and metered verse and especially how you linked at the end to the nursery rhyme.
Yes, they are good for the garden and also very cute.
Hope your garden is growing well - ours is full of flowers and veg at the moment but we are starting to dry up and keeping things watered is an annual problem. Yours, i imaging will be going into winter hibernation.
Great to see the muse hasn't entirely vanished from your poetic life.

Thanks for the R & R, Steve. My garden is about as bad as can be. Sprained my upper and lower ankle and my knee about five weeks ago, so I have been watching everything die through the window from my perch on the couch. My muse has been quite fickle of late but, due to theimmobility, I have successfully binge-watched several series on Netflix. - W.

Any recommendations for netflix series. I'm not averse to a bit of a binge. Liked American Rust, although it was a bit gloomy. Watched quite a bit of Succession before it became too boring. Haven't seen anything that really gripped me for a while.

Frankie and Grace, Blacklist, Schitts Creek, The Umbrella Acadamy, and over on Amazon, Orphan Black, Acting tour de force more than pure plot fascination.

This is fantastic, Rosehill. I had no idea a group of ladybugs is called a loveliness. This has been a most educational and enjoyable read! You have some great lines throughout this rhyming poem, my favorite of which is: "I watched them dance in crimson gowns/with polka dots of black." Excellent description and rhyme throughout with a cute narrative on the side. Thank you for sharing this; best of luck in the contest!

Thanks so much for taking the time to read and review. Once a friend mentioned the plural noun, I knew I had to write to it. I had fun doing the research too. - Wendy

Your contest entry is a great tribute to the ladybug, Rhonda. I enjoyed reading it. Your words are well thought out and descriptive. I could see everything you mentioned about the ladybugs. You even gave some factual info, too. The image is perfect to pair with your words.
A hatchelling banquet soon ensued-->hatchling
Best wishes in the contest.
Respectfully, Jan

You show yourself a keen observer of the insect world. I have always had a soft spot for ladybirds. I never dreamed they were so useful as well as decorative.

A "Loveliness of Ladybugs" - that in itself is worth a sixer right there, Wendy. How delightful to see you here. I pop in only occasionally but always hope to find a little gem from you and you haven't disappointed with this sweet, witty piece with impeccable rhyme and meter (though 'stalks' and 'phlox' was a challenge to my Aussie ear! :):):) SHARYN
PS: You still have your bnb? We do, and are crazy busy, believe it or not. Everyone's trying to escape the Mainland, it seems!

Hi Sharyn, so nice to see your moniker in my review bin and I appreciate the lovely review. My muse is somewhat awol these days, so I post very infrequently. I am no longer a B & B, but an Inn for traveling nurses. I was shut down during the pandemic and had to reinvent my income. They stay for a minimum of 90 days (no empty room fears), clean their own rooms and baths, cook and clean up after themselves. I am in charge of cleaning the common rooms and feeding the dog. A semi retirement, but at 70, I think I deserve it. - Wendy

Hahaha - I just turned 69 last week and I HEAR you! Bravo for you, reinventing your biz! Wish I could do the same! We're full on and the busiest we've EVER been. Personally, I WOULD LOVE A VACATION! Nice to see you, Wendy! :)Sharyn

That has to be the best collective noun I've ever heard, describing a collection of ladybirds, yes, I knew they feed on aphids. This is beautifully written poem dear friend, a superb classical née actually means "born" in French. Excellent flow and rhyming, great ballad 8686 abcb. Beautifully written, blessings Roy

Thanks for the kind words, Roy. Tried for the accent mark on nee, but Mr. Editor wouldn't accept. Yes, originally they were called Lady Birds in England, but you know we Yanks. - Wendy
