What a nostalgic trip back to childhood. Wonderful images of the games we all used to play. Eddie sounds like a true leader! Charisma shows up early.
I particularly related to you always ending up dead. My brother was 5 years older and he and his friends didn't want me tailing after them, so they always played War. Of course, I was always the first to be shot and had to stay there while they would run off to do their thing.
How lucky that children can innocently play their games without knowing what the future will bring. The imagination and courage brought to those games should not have been snuffed out in vain.
Small typos:
- "...he was, actually..." - either remove the comma or add another one after 'actually'
- "Unfortunately, he chose Ellen, she was inches taller than all of us, and..." Either a period or a semi-colon after 'Ellen'
- "I was also given a role, meet Cheeta; the chimpanzee!" Period after 'role', caps for 'meet', comma after 'Cheeta'

Thank you Gert for your kind thoughts and review. Eddie's family was popular and well-known in our neighborhood. His mom and my mom were friends and they were kind to us when she passed away. It was tough to see them so heartbroken at Eddie's wake.
