A Villanelle for kids

Sailing Away

by damommy

We boarded ship to sail the seas,
and go where none have gone before.
to travel anywhere we please.

The sails be trimmed to catch the breeze,
and reach an undiscovered shore,
we boarded ship to sail the seas.

My crew will stand on deck at ease
though we are numbered only four,
to travel anywhere we please.

Our sacks are packed with bread and cheese,
we’ll eat like sailors did of yore.
We boarded ship to sail the seas.

Now casting off with expertise,
each man has set about his chore
to travel anywhere we please.

It was a chance we had to seize,
but Mother’s calling from the door.
We boarded ship to sail the seas,
to travel anywhere we please.
