Watermark1974: Ever since I was a kid I've loved telling stories. Whether they were stories about characters I imagined living in vast star ships, fighting fierce battles, or falling headlong into tragic romances--it didn't matter. These stories were my way of entertaining myself in a family that didn't read or find much use for books. My mother was the only reader I knew. And the books she read were the romantic-sort with covers depicting a man ravishing an eager woman, which she displayed without the slightest bit of shame or concern for youthful witnesses. I grew up on horror films like the Omen, Halloween, Friday the Thirteenth, Rosemary's Baby, and many of Stephen King's works made into TV programs or movies. But books weren't something brought into my household, not even those steamy romance novels. To be honest, I never witnessed my mother reading a single thing. The romance novels I recall could have been a kindly donation, a gift, or something given second hand. My literary life, despite the book-phobia of my family, began when I was thirteen. I started with Dean Koontz, Peter Straub, and Stephen King. (As luck would have it my choices came from a five-and-dime wheeler cart). Afterwards I developed a voracious appetite for fiction. I love the art of manipulation and the ability to trick a person's mind into following the writer down the proverbial rabbit's hole. Since those long ago days I've never hesitated in telling people I want to be a writer. I'm not published. I'm not a grad student. And I don't have a list of academic accomplishments to add credence to my good name. However, I have written hundreds of short stories, completed a novel, written millions of words, and done quite well for myself. I live in Windermere, Florida with four cats (two bengals and two rescues), and my very best friend. Each evening I'm able to hear Magic Kingdom's fireworks boom in the distance, which gives me a modest inkling of what it must have been like to live near cannon-fire during an earlier era... Of course, it isn't that loud. A few of my favorite authors are J.K. Rowling, Anne Rice, Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson, Suzanne Collins, and James Cameron (I believe he wrote most of the screenplays for the movies he directed and I absolutely love his work). I am an Audible fiend. I love audiobooks!!! I listen more than read, but I'm trying to make it more a fifty-fifty thing. I'm also an iPad guy--I write almost exclusively on my iPad via an App called Pages. As far as my aspirations, I have only two: Becoming A New York Time's Best Selling Author, and winning a HUGE Power-Ball Jackpot!!! |
