Bill, I am not sure I could have stuck around very long either, but I know how we write and truth is not always too exciting. So in comes a little fiction.

Because I know how I get with my husband thinking he is going to do a few things his way, I also let him know that he has a shed, (a large shed) a garage and then at then a couple out buildings and his bed would fit fine in any one of them. LOL..

I wrote one called Queen of my Castle once. Anyway I bet your wife is quite lovely, and I did enjoy your poem. You told it great from a man's point of view.

Your entire poem, presentation and notes were wonderful. Great job on this and Bill it is good to meet you. Btw, I was born on a cold day in October too. (Smile)

    Hello Debi,

Thank you for your wonderful review, I appreciate it very much. And I also thank you for becoming my fan, I am honored.

Yes, my wife is a very lovely woman and the love of my life for the last 57 years. I was diagnosed with MS many years ago and she has constantly been at my side every since. As I get older the MS keeps me from writing as much as I used to.
Thanks again and I am not only honored to have you as my fan, but even more honored to have you as a new friend. May God bless you and yours...Bill

Super shout. I found the latter statement the most compelling in views stated, making me think outside myself and consider other not able to relate the same pleasures. A wonderful message in my opinion.

Thank you for your great review and rating, I really appreciate it. Yes, I agree with you, it does take teamwork. After working for many years and then all of a sudden you're thrown together with each other every day, that definitely will test how strong your marriage really is. Many will end in divorce according to the experts.

Thanks again my friend. Stay safe from the virus...Bill

This is excellent, Bill, and enjoyable reading. I imagine many men feel this way. Wives no doubt have a long list of Honey Do things. I certainly have, but usually honey don't. Sometimes when he tries to help in the kitchen, he gets in the way. Although I appreciate his efforts, they're not always at the right time. The wife's tone in your poem was interesting, as she now seems to boss in charge. Many men now have working wives who are retiring at about the same time, so it will be a real test of wills. Excellent rhyme and flow to add to the enjoyment. judi

    Hello Judi,

Thanks for your comments on this subject.

When only the man works and comes home after many years on the job and assumes he's entitled to just lay around the house all day it creates a great deal of stress on the marriage. According to what the experts say, this is one of the primary reasons for divorce shortly after retirement.

Stay safe and well from the virus, my friend...Bill

You have certainly described a disturbing senario worthy of being heeded. I will say that maybe husband and wife should do things together, maybe even rekindle a spark! I really enjoyed this well written poem...thanks for sharing.

Thank you for your excellent review, I appreciate it. Yes, I agree, wife and hubby definitely should do things together, however, both should have a little "alone time" occasionally. Absence makes the heart grow fonder...LOL

Take care and stay safe from the virus...Bill

My husband and I both work but I just had foot surgery so he's had to step it up. He never complained, not a lot anyways, but he did a great job. I'm starting to be able to do things again and I can see the appreciation all over his face. Sometimes we just need a reality check to make us appreciate what we have. This was funny and I'm sure many can relate.

Hello Bill. That's a very amusing narrative of what happens when worlds collide after retirement date. When I retired I immediately became the kitchen Marshall so I've managed to confine all of my list to cooking, cleaning and maintaining. Now when something else comes up on the list, my answer is, "I'm making supper" no matter what time of day it is.

    Hello Robert,

Thank you for your excellent review and the suggestion...LOL.

I just got a review from a 90 year old gentlemen whose been married nearly 70 years and he said his secret is to have "selective hearing." Only listen to what you want to hear from the wife...LOL. What a cheerful old fellow he is.

Take care Robert and stay safe from the virus...Bill

That's a funny list you made and a funny story from the 90 year old.

Dear Poet,
The subject is of interest to many retirees. I went through the same ordeal 27 years ago, but now all is sweetness and light. Just hang in there. As to the poem itself, I think the metre needs some work to smooth it out.

Oh my goodness, this is too funny (in a frightening sort of way). My husband was lucky enough to retire while I was still working, but now I'm home too and, yes, he has a lot less free time than he thought he would. I try not to be a wifezilla, but certain things just have to get done. On the other hand, I (and all other wives) need to take on our share of the responsibilities and realize that we have a retired husband, not a full-time butler (however nice the latter might sound).

Thanks for this very amusing warning to men of what they might encounter, and to women of what they might become.

    Hello Michele,

Thank you for your excellent review, I appreciate it.

Yes, if we're not prepared for retirement, it can be a real test of how strong your marriage really is. And, it definitely takes teamwork to keep things together.

According to the experts there are a lot of divorces shortly after the man retires and comes home. That's sad.

    Take care my friend...Bill

Thank you, and you do the same.

I'm happy to say that, even home together, out of work and dealing with the Corona Virus outbreak, my husband and I are still working together like a well-oiled machine. He handles the household chores, I handle the bills. If we're making dinner together, and one grabs meat or chicken from the freezer, the other will get to work on a side dish without our even discussing who's doing what. We just fall into place. We'll be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary in July, so I guess we've had lots of time to figure each other out. :-)

That's wonderful Michele, it sounds like you guys have everything under control. I also have a great deal to be thankful for. My wife and I have been together for 53 years and our next anniversary is also in July (11th).

Take care my friend and may God continue to bless your marriage...Bill

And yours as well. We are two of four very lucky people. By the way, luck might have to do with how two people meet, but it's care and effort that keep them together. The four of us have obviously figured that out. It's a lesson I learned well from my parents, who were married for 61 years when my father passed away.

I think you wrote a great poem! Retirement is an amazing accomplishment. The poem is well written, and I enjoyed the humor when the wife says she can't retire because work is never done. Great poem!

    Hello Jeffrey,

Thank you for your excellent review, I appreciate it. Retirement is a wonderful accomplishment. However, according to what I have read, many men believe that this entitles them the right to just lay around the house all day. Which can create enough serious problems that will eventually lead to divorce.

    Have a great day Jeffrey...Bill
