I enjoyed your Octogram and your lakeside photograph "as dusk descends". I admired your rhymes, repeat and reference to Daguerreotypes. Cheers- Joan

This is a wonderful photograph of a nice family at sunset.
Sounds like a hard form to keep. I like the metaphors of last heavenly kiss
and blessing passing.

Keep writing

You have been very clever with additions to this octograms. I am not actually thinking of the couplettts that frame the piece but the additional poetic features within the poem.

We find cross rhyme in the first stanza of the octogram descends/bends/ends. Followed almost immediately by alliteration on the H, P and D with the latter also occuring at line two as a repeat and carried on into the second stanza where D is also employed in consonance in that conveniently consonent word "dividends". consonance and euphony is a feature of the second stanza, with "rapt rapport", which is of course also alliterative, and blessing/passing which isn't.

The amazing thing is that this plethora of poetic devices withen a relatively short piece does not come over as being in the least contrived. I have always found you to be a poet of technical excellence but here you have added artistic brilliance as well and I am pleased to be able to give this one six stars.

Wow! I am not only pleased, but profoundly touched by this incredible analysis of this piece. Very few here could provide the technical assessment that you so easily defined. Of course, the cross-rhyming and inline rhyming was strongly influenced by the Welsh formats that you and Ciliverde (Carol) have been posting. You are the most skilled poet on the site, in my opinion, and so this review is all the more appreciated.

The poetry you write is sparkling. I love every line and stanza of this one. " In dazzling Dauguere displays" paints a clear picture using alliteration and photography reference. The first and last lines, "Some lovely people that I met are featured here in sillhouette," is so forthright and sweet at the same time. I don't know exactly why, but I love this poem.

That was a lovely poem, Tom, the picture was amazing. I am becoming a huge fan of black and white photos, there is something about them that make them more interesting than their coloured counterparts. Adding this one with the words that your photo inspired you to write, and you have the perfect combination. A real pleasure to read, my friend. You must almost have enough for another book! :) Sandra xx

Thank you Sandra. Your words are most encouraging. I have enough to publish 9 more books. Although, I am about to post an announcement of my third book here. Wish I could afford to publish more, but I'm not exactly getting rich from authorship. Still, I'm glad they are out there.

I know exactly what you mean. :( I have been researching what helps to get a mainstream publisher interested in taking you on, even if you are self published. It seems if you have three books completed they show some interest. If I were you, I would send an enquiry letter to a few publishers with the names of your books and let them know you have more for another so many books. If they are interested, they will ask for a sample copy, and who knows what can come from that. It won't cost you anything to find out and I know how good your poetry is. It's well worth a try, my friend. xx

A very well-written Octagram. The rhyming works well and the repeating line has great impact. An excellent photo that compliments your poem.

Oh, Tom! I love silhouettes! I used to collect the vintage variety! *smile* I love the fact that you caught this image yourself. Great job. And I enjoyed the octogram, also. It's one of my favorite forms!

This is a beautiful poem, and the picture that inspired it is lovely. I have not seen this form previously, but I like it. You did a wonderful job on it, it flowed so easily. The meter and rhyme was excellent.
