Very nice, Tom - Thanks for letting me know you wrote a Progresso Quattro so that I could look it up. It was a bit tricky to find, but worth the hunt. The stanzas do build beautifully, and your chosen theme is excellent.
You do an excellent job of describing the hummingbirds that come to your feeder.
Especially so, with Stanza 3.
Try as I might - Hummingbirds are not enticed to come to my hummingbird feeders. I get lots and lots of other birds - but the hummingbird remains elusive. I know they're in the neighbourhood - but only visit other peoples' feeders.

Thank you very much. Yes, hummingbirds are very territorial.

Magnificent pictures!!!! We had a couple hummingbirds this year, really not near as many as usual, since I had tons of flowers outside. I loved your notes.....very informative, and this is a beautiful poem, blessings....

Hi, Treischel,
"Hummingbirds" is another colorful, beautiful cameo of nature this time found in your back yard around a bird feeder. It is written in an unusual complicated form which shows off your poetic craftsmanship to the best advantage. The figurative language is excellent "thrum". The flow is excellent and rhyme is good, simple, and the rhyme scheme followed.
Your friend and colleague,
Preston

Thank you Oreston for that fine assessment.

It is always a delight to watch hummingbirds in flight. We have several differing types here. However, in late July and early August the one hummer that is not at all welcomed by the other hummers is the Ruphus hummer. This hummer is a bit mean to the others/ Patricia

Thank you Patricia. When I was in Colorado, we had many more varieties than here.

We've only had one hummingbird at the feeder this fall. They are so amazing though. Your poem has good imagery and well written.

I don't think I have ever seen one of these amazing creatures and I know I have not seen an example of this form before. somehow the progressive build up of the lines is appropriate to the frenetic activitity of the little creature.
A nice match of form and content.

Dear Tom, sorry to say I can't help you on the format of this poem. I can only tell you it sang to me as I read it aloud. Beautiful work, you capture them in everyway I have seen them. Brought them to life on my screen.
As always your imagery stands out for me, smooth and a wonderful read.
Thanks for sharing.

Wow--you caught so many hummingbirds at your feeder! I enjoyed your notes and the use of this special form, which seems to parallel the bird's action. I liked the way you captured the sound and the colors and intensified your message with the rhymes and your circular repeat of the first line. Smiles back at you- Joan

It seems quaint. And that the form itself was created with these birds in mind.
You might enjoy the book, " A Summer of Hummingbirds" about Emily Dickinson,
and Walt Whitman and the artist in the Audubon Society that first found the
hummingbirds in Brazil, and Central America
