Hello Tom,
lovely photographs that I wish I could see better. damn site. lol
An interesting form, more interesting is the encounter...
one nit: the word, 'delt' should be 'dealt'
good luck in the contest!
I enjoyed your encounter...
great bouts of rhyming, alliteration and a feast of other poetic devices... most notably:
Oh, such a sight I watched just then!
This bird in flight, it soars again,
I love the sound of that... flows seamlessly

Comment from John Parkin
I live in the Northwest and we have many Herron's and each one I see, I always stop in anticipation and waiting for the swift movement of a Herron catching a fish. When it flies away, it is so graceful and magical wo watch. I admire your understanding of writing in Sestets and hope someday to conquer this style of writing. I thought your rhyming was excellent and went back several times to match your syllable counts in the various stanzas.

This is so good. It transported me to the place and time. I really love your use of rhyme and meter in this and the form of choice was faithfully followed, but more than all of that this was beautiful

I am not sure what all the things mean about how the poem is written at all . I just know that I enjoyed it and could picture this Great Blue Heron and the sight it must have been. We do not have Great Blue Herons in England to my knowledge but we do have herons. Anyway I really enjoyed the poem.

As usual, your poetic flair with things of nature and animals is amazing. And not only that but the last lines leaves an enduring message. They make me think of that awesome evolution:
"when Pterodactyl dinosaurs
had yet encountered any human race.
Well done, Tom.

Treischel, what a great story for the Share a story in a poem
contest. You even captured two fantastic pictures to highlight
your poem. That sounds like one of those take your breath away
encounters.

Dear Treischel,
For the blue heron is quite a bird. I am glad that you captured him on film. They say birds are present day dinosaurs and I believe it is true. Great camera action that day in the marsh.
Warm regards,
Winslow

I've seen a few herons by the stream in a park near our house. Two great blues, and one was a smaller type...not sure what exactly. They are such big birds! I enjoyed your sestets about this encounter, which is full of the feeling of peace you must have had there, along with a sense of awe toward this magnificent creature. They are indeed very prehistoric looking...and they do have a primal grace.
Well done!
