I liked the short terse lines and each word held the key to the hunting mastery of these birds. A poem that demonstrates your admiration for these birds of prey and they awesome and unique skills. Well done, Tom.

I appreciate your very informative notes, about the bird on the picture and about the poetic form as well. I really enjoyed reading this. The form is very nice, I like the repeating line "Eye of the hunter" and the nice rhythm and rhyme scheme. Great job.
Blessings,
Anabella

I like the repeating verse.I love the imagery of the life a a preying bird. the imagery is clear, vivid, and captivating. The Hawk is powerful, fierce, brutal, and competent in his skills. I like this verse "Actions are faster
Eye of the Hunter
Detects what it's seeking
Explodes in a streak " Thanks for sharing.

A series of factual statements, almost as if they were drawn from an encyclopedia of raptors and yet put together in such a way that from time to time the shere poetry of the statements shines through. This is achieved partially by the quatrain feature of the repeated line, itself more poetic than encyclopedic, as well as other poetic devices such as alliteration "perched in a pasture". These poetic statements contrast sharply with the more clinically factual such as "Sharp talons and beak".
The overall effect is like looking at the bird from two angles almost simultaneously, an intriguing view.

Thank you very much Pantygynt, I like your detailed assessment. The two angles aspect hadn't occurred to me.

While having fun you still doing a good job. Interesting information on the Red-tailed hawk, which I did not know resist until now. Great photography as well

My fellow Minnesota, friend, poet, photographer and amazing outdoors man, wow!
Great photo close up. I would not want to be this close to the hawk. I saw three hawks at my brother's house in Denver. The prey they were eyeing was a little dog that belonged to my brother. When I walked Duke I would hold him when I passed by the three hawks watching us. They played tag on the wooden fence. They would fly onto the roof of the house. The rabbits escaped notice of the hawks but they were surely looking at Duke.
I hope that you had a fun summer fishing, camping and hanging out with your precious family. Did you get to hear some music on Lake Harriet band shell or walk around the rose garden or lakes up there in Minn=eapo=is? Have fun. Great poem and beautiful hawk. Nice notes for us to be smarter. flylikeaneagle

Thank you flylikeaneagke. Interesting notes you shared on the Hawks and Duke. I haven't been to a concert at Harriet, but have been to the Rosegarden.
