Your photograph of the home altar establishes the mood for your tanka perfectly. I particularly admired your pivot line in this 5-7-5-7-7 composition. Best wishes in the contest- Joan

I have to be honest, Tom, I haven't quite mastered the Japanese forms. Actually ... I'm clueless!
So .. tanka very much. :) You've done a good job as far as I can see. Best wishes for the contest.

Thank you Sonali. I tend to agree with you. To me the Japanese take all the beauty out of poetry with all their esoteric rules. No rhyme, no alliteration, no punctuation, no capital letters, makes no sense. But i try everything, because it's good to be diverse.

Petitions placed for answers is a very poignant phrase. Great alliteration. Perfect tanka form. Good luck in the contest.

May we all keep our prayer altar bight with the light of His word and pray for peace and light for the world. May we have a heart in our prayers for those who don't know the Lord. Patricia

Thank you Patricia. I didn't mention it, because it is in a contest , but that is in my house.

Most people have an altar at home. It's their refuge to say their prayers in a quiet environment. A special moment for a talk with Jesus. Beautiful picture to mirror your poem.
