Comment from Dr. Nad
You have taken what to so many of us is a bland subject of botany, and brought literary delight to this product of God's nature. The combination of the beautiful picture and the free-flowing words in this rhyming poem draw us to the conclusion that your presentation is a literary and artistic delight. Thank you so much for sharing. May God bless you!

Your poem is a beautiful tribute to the amaryllis, which is truly a beautiful flower. I've only grown one inside once. Your poem has excellent rhyme and meter.
This lovely flower is sure to delight, (no comma)

You are so prescient--I've been looking for a potted amaryllis to replace my defunct plant from Christmas 2013. Thanks for your notes--maybe I'll get lucky in March--if not, I can satisfy my urge by re-reading your poem and gazing at your outstanding, artful picture. I admired your rhymed, five-line stanzas and your "lion manes" metaphor plus "flame" simile. Here's to combating the "effects of seasonal gloom"! Smiles- Joan

Hi, Treischel,
"Amaryllis" is a beautiful poem invoking love for the "naked lady". It truly sparkles with rhyme and rhythm. It is well crafted in an unusual format.

Hello there, Tom
You are indeed right, the 'Amaryllis is certainly one of the most spectacular flowers. I didn't know that they were called 'Red Lions' Now that you mention it, they do indeed stand very proud and bold.
A perfect name!
Your poem captures the essence of this beautiful flower and accompanies your personal photograph perfectly.
Poetry, if nothing else, is to try and encompass in terse terms the quintessential element of its subject, and I think that you have excelled here.
Well done
Kindest regards

This is a great poem and captures well the magic of this flower. I liked these lines because they reflect the flower--lion's mane so well:
"The stunning Red Lion Amaryllis.
Red giant blooms with handsome lion manes,
Surrounding a center of lily-like vanes,"
Well done, Tom.

What a wonderful name, the "Naked Lady" Your descriptions of this flower doesn't need a picture. Your words do this flower a great honor. Love the rhyming, no awkwardness at all. You're right its appearance will brighten any room. Wonderfully written. Les

Your poem was beautiful. The rhyming scheme was spot on and I also loved your use of imagery. Even without the picture provided I was able to imagine an image of the flower in my mind because you gave such a clear description of it in your writing. I also loved how you subtlety added the fun facts into your poem, such as how it is native to South Africa. Overall it is very well written poem.
