Shirley, the syllable countdown in this poem is precise and the message is given loud and clear as to the emotional abuse inflicted. Well chosen words. :0 GracieAnn

A powerfully emotional Nonet. Hacked hair. That would be an esteem killer for sure. This story of your youth is a distressing. I feel for you deeply. Your poetry is excellent. You told the details in perfect form. It corned a perfect V. That represents attantion to detail and skillful language usage.

This is a heartbreaking poem that the author has created with this piece of work. I cringe when I see stories like this. It I terrible indeed. Things like this should never happen.

So sad for you, dear friend. Some sick parents out there. Was alcohol partly or most to blame? Was it from both parents?

Control by fear or any other means should be labeled abuse. Emotional abuse is equal to or worse than many others...the scars are not easily faded, and they are never removed.
Lovely picture
Thank you for sharing of yourself

Thank you Karen.
I appreciate your thoughtful review.
I didn't really recognise it as such at the time.
I was controlled, brainwashed and isolated.

Hi, Shirley,
The sure sign of a strong person---never cries or gives in. A strong impact nonet, and so sad and true for you. Thankfully, you were able to rise above it and have a happy, new life.
And now, you have a devoted husband, beautiful daughters and wonderful grandchildren.
Well done, my friend.
Cheers & Blessings

Jax, I sure am smiling right now.
Your magical five stars is such a blessing.
This is a path of healing and release and I appreciate your companionship
and support along the way.
These poems and stories will go into my book of memoirs.
Thank you, my friend.

Your are so welcome. (*<*)
It's always such a good feeling to overcome adversity, and then be able to revisit that which makes us stronger.
Great job, my friend.

Oh my goodness. I hope the writing of this obviously cruel childhood helps you heal somewhat. Have your read any of the other stories here about abusive childhoods? There are several writers here, who share their stories. I call this The Healing Pen.

Thank you.
I appreciate your review. Yes, I am aware of, have read, and continue to read the stories of other victims of abuse.
Indeed it is the healing pen. I am writing a series of memoirs and including them in by book on-site.
It will be my childhood in prose and poetry.

Hi seken58. How true! your words in the authors notes. I think that's why it is hard for outsiders to pick up, and the abused little one has no way to know where to turn for help. I felt the pain in this poem, alf

Thank you for reviewing with understanding.
It is true that abusers work under the radar and control is a major factor.
I survived but have only recently recognised, acknowledged and shared my
experiences as child abuse.
I am writing a series of memoirs for healing and release.

Seems there are many little girls have had an abuser who cut their hair unevenly. My middle daughter cut my youngest hair very unevenly one afternoon. We were to go to a graduation that night and when I found my baby with the uneven hair cut I had no choice but to sit her in the chair and give her a very short almost pixie cut. It looked good, but the little one didn't like it.

Thank you Patricia.
I appreciate your review.
The difference for me was that this was an act of malice and spite
and repeated many times throughout my childhood.
There were no fixes for my hack jobs just teasing until it grew long enough for him to do it again.
Power and humiliation were his drivers and this is only part of my story.
I am writing it as a series of memoirs for healing, cleansing and renewal.

I an sorry Shirley that you had to endure this kind of thing in your childhood. I now better understand your poem. Writing about past pain is very good therapy and does help the healing process. I am writing my story as well and my life story was made into a radio drama. If you have not heard it, here is a link where you can hear it on the computer
