Engaging ending... Makes me wanna read the beginning! Very emotional writing and unusual choice of first person present tense.

I think this is the only chapter I have read, but I found it very charming indeed. You have a beautiful writing voice. You bring the writer right in and it makes you feel at home.

This is just a wonderfully written chapter. Your characters are so vivid and
You want to know more about each one as the words flow. I was a high school teacher, and I am SO familiar with the angst.

This has got to be the line of the year: "Roots aren't supposed to be pretty. That's why they stay underground. They do their part, and it's the bloom that shines." Is this available in one piece? We need this for our YA Lit class. You know all your chapters rate sixes. Here's the V6 (virtual six).

I have just published the first in the series, The 'Shine Baby. It is about Rory's dad when he was a teenager. The second book, coing this fall, is called Sins of My Father. It will be out this fall. I will post a notice when I put it on Amazon. Thank you so much. I write geared for the reluctant reader. No flowery speech and I like to give details in the speech tags and dialogue. I am a reluctant reader, and so are two of my children. Everything I write has to pass the attention span test in my house. LOL. thank you for even considering me for your lit class. I am so very honored. Thanks for the virtual six as well. Means a lot to me. Gretchen

put on makeup, and what little hair - add the comma
she eats most of her soup, and then
excellent dialogue throughout
I love his gesture of cutting his hair
a moving ending in this coming of age story

Thank you for the great review. Gretchen

Hi, Gretchen.
You have done a great job writing this story. I have seen the growth in Rory throughout, a gradual progression in maturity, reaching the end where he is more confident. You showed well his struggles and bond with Dean, and an understanding of who his father is. I like the way you've ended the book, Rory getting the final say with Cassie. He now walking away with his head held high. Great story!
Bye
Rosalyne :)

I waited for today to review so I could give the book a six. I will miss Dean and Rory. Will you do a third book so we will know how Carolyn fares? I have really enjoyed both books Gretchen.Sorry to see the end as I looked for your message every day. Well done. Nancy

Once again, thank you for the wonderful and gracious review and response to Sins of My Father. Gretchen

Wow. I did not see this as the ending of the story. It's nice that Rory has his grandmother to explore his roots, but I think some things could be fleshed out (such as scenes describing why Carolyn is responsible for Rory's father having trust issues). But it ends on a high note, with Rory having confidence in himself. Good job.

The scenes for Dean and Carolyn are in the previous book, The 'Shine Baby. I posted it last year. This is the not quite sequel to that one. Thank you for the wonderful review and the insightful comments. Gretchen

You need to do two things, Gretchen: You need to get this published and you need to start another -- right away!
I'm going to miss Rory. Your finger fell of the "h" key in the only spag I found, and so I couldn't give you a 7. So, you'll have to settle with a 6.
groceries and a couple of other tings. [other THINGS]
This was a MOST SATISFYING ENDING, Gretchen. You've tied up all the loose ends, only leaving possibilities for the future as offerings.
It was a privilege reading Sins of My Father. I feel enlarged by the experience.
Congratulations!

Thank you for giving me the probably some of the best feedback I have gotten on this site. I valued each and every one. Looking forward to more of The Trining. Thank you for this wonderful review and the sixer. I really do appreciate it. By the way, I self published the prequel to this, The 'Shine Baby. So if you're ever curious as to why Dean is Dean, and how Rory came to be...check it out.

Where did you self-publish? Amazon? Kindle? Paper? Ebook?

I went through Createspace. I am available on Amazon, and Kindle. It was moderately painless process. I, thankfully , have a husband who is more computer savy then I am, so he got the nuts and bolts done. LOL.

Just bought The Shine Baby for Kindle. Looking forward to reading it.

Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you. I feel so honored that you did that. Let me know what you think.

Thank you for this excellent story. I am still wanting there to be a better girl than Cassis in his life.
I like how you made Rory human, letting him make mistakes and learn as his life goes along.
I like the happy ending too. :)

Cassie probably isn't the girl to win Rory's heart, but if they do ever date, I'm sure it will be on his terms. LOL. Thank you so much for the wonderful review and the great ones all along the way. I definitely appreciate them all. Thank you for the excellent rating as well. Gretchen
