Hi. I have been 'gone' for a while...so had to back track to pick up the story. I am glad i did. Poor guy, growing up fast now. He's gonna have some figuring out to do. Dang his mom anyway.

From the moment she is disappointed that Rory's dad isn't there, I hated Kathleen. I hated her more when she outright rejects Rory. He is nothing to her and the dialogue shows that brilliantly. Very good technique.

Kathleen seem s helpless enough in the first book, The Shine Baby, but I tried to give hints that she wasn't a very nice person. I am glad you wrote what you did. You were supposed to hate her and I appreciate that you le me know. Thank you for the great review and the very helpful comments. Gretchen

This chapter is great in description, and it's good at depicting character.
The girl greeting you at the dor, smiles nice and does your bidding by caling Kathleen.
In keeping with her writing you out of her life, she shuts the door in your face.
How sad, abandoned, and lifeless can your relationship get?

I love the way you are developing this part of rory's story. The conflict with his relationship with Kathleen rings very true. It's deeply sad that she's using Rory to get close again to his father. And I can feel Rory's sadness, ambivalence. Caroline
