I think this chapter explains the struggle of Rory French more than before.

It seems he wants to understand the behavior of his dad, even justifying the nglect, the "sins of his father," and attribute the lack of empathy and compassion to the earlier stroke.
Not all is disclosed about Kathleen, but apparently she is the first wiffe. She seems to have even less love and concern for Rory--or have I got that wrong?

Emotion is deep and well expressed.

Don

Kathleen was never married to Dean, Rory's father. He was drunk at the time of conception. The plans were to give Rory up for adoption, but Dean panicked and couldn't do it. Kathleen is mentally challenged and doesn't have the capacity for feeling anything for Rory. She is obsessed with his father though. All of these characters were in The 'Shine Baby, a previous novel on Fanstory. I know it is confusing, but thank you so much for taking the time to find out about them. I appreciate the review. Rory is trying to figure out who he is, through his own family's history. Gretchen

Wow! A very impressive write! I've been off the site for quite a few months, but I'm glad I got to drop in and read this. You have a gift for reading the inner workings of an adolescent's mind. So many times a parent will take for granted that their teens just either know how to deal with something or will figure out a way, that they neglect to adequately sympathize or work through it...great job!

This story keeps you interested more and more with each chapter. The father is not The villain and needs to be more open and helpful with his son, you show through The gentle telling from other people that The dad might not be mentally capable of such a thing. From your expertly written chapter I feel The father knows This and is ashamed and doesn't know what to do. His best defense is to tell his son to "deal with it and hope for The best.

A well written chapter of what I'm sure is an enjoyable book. I wish I'd been around from the beginning. Thanks for the read, and great job. :-)

Just popped in because of Fred's link and thoroughly enjoyed this bit of the larger story. "Just deal with it"... probably good advice, in fact. It's how you learn to make your own decisions... to be independent. Make your own mistake and you won't forget the lesson. :)

You do a great job of depicting Rory's sarcastic attitude, so realistic for a teenager
When he turns to leave, I watch - add comma
You depict his frustrations with the situations of his life well Brooke

Hello Gert. aAnother good chapter. i can remember this feeling...my early teenage times were filled with the terro of what ma mom would do..I hid a lot, played sports and just stayed angry...at least Rory isn't angry and lashing out...

Hello Gretchen,

As always, I'm amazed at how convincingly you get into an adolescent male's head.

A good read. I feel for the boy!

Hope you're having a great weekend.
