Isn't it amazing- four centuries and going strong. You summarize his themes well in the sonnet. Just one suggestion- even though it would screw up your rhyme scheme, "naive men and scheming wife"- unless this is polygamy in reverse, wife needs to be wives.

Thank you very much.Yes it would upset the rhyme scheme and i was meaning one scheming wife-Lady Macbeth!

I often think also, that those woth such creative gifts are at least touched often, if not in touch always, with the divine, making its presence known to the rest of us.

Good homage to one of these

This poem is written in great Shakespearean sonnet form. It is a great contest entry and I wish you all the best in the contest.

Good use of the sonnet rhyme scheme. Good end rhyming. Good perfect rhyming with life/wife...claws/flaws. Good description and alliteration. Good eye catching photo followed by a clear message.

maybe it's the font you used, or the style, or just me, but it appears that many words are running together, without proper spacing.

But the work is superb. very nicely done. Good Luck in the contest

You have chosen a perfect subject for the National Poetry Writing Month. What better than about the Bard himself as it coincides with his birthday anniversary. Your iambic Pent.. goes astray in stanza 2. A little editing here would enhance the poem. Yes, it is amazing all the words and phrases we use today Shakespeare wrote. What would he write about today I wonder. Good Luck in the contest. Regards Dorothy

Thank you very much.Since i am not a native speaker of English, the accent and pronunciation may differ .So I am confused as to which is the strong syllable and which one the weak. That is why i didnt mention anything about 'Iambic'in my author's note. But I did try my best to make it 'penta'(ten syllables in each line) I know sonnets have to be in iambic pentameter.Frankly i prefer free verse !Thanks again.

nice alliteration in phrases like born on the banks and delve into the depths
and conscience that claws and others
excellent use of illustrative examples
a thoughtful sonnet in tribute to Shakespeare :-) Brooke

there are lots of places in the united states called Avon. I think the one you're referring to is in England. this is a well written piece of poetic art that I enjoyed reading and writing this response for... John

A really great tribute to The Bard.
Good verbiage, and I enjoyed you rhyming. Your meter was constant throughout.
Congrats on a job well done.
