What a poignant piece this is. We all are just souls living temporarily in bodies and for a brief time, considering eternity. You have a marvelous attitude about growing older and watching your body disappoint you. Nicely done, Lou

This is very interesting. I'm about where you are with infirmities and always have to use the bathroom but it takes effort to get there. I like your idea... forget the worn out body and be a soul! :)

LP, beautifully expressed. Your last line clinched this posting for me as I can fully relate to it as well-

I have been a Christian all my life. Not always a very good one for much of it, but I have always loved Christ.

Nicely done, John

I've always enjoyed that saying by C.S. Lewis, LovnPeace, while not always embracing it. Without knowing your age, I'd say you're probably over 60, have been hurt a time or two in your life -- whether it be by a spouse, ex-spouse, parent or friend. Even our own children can do things that tear us up inside from time to time.

You definitely have the right idea as to who to turn to for help. We have no better friend than Christ, no matter what the world is trying to tell us.

Good luck, and God bless!

    You are welcome.

I'm 54, and already have a severely damaged heart. I have 20% heart function remaining, and could simply drop dead at any given moment. Yet, I still live life like there's no tomorrow because, let's face it, tomorrow is never guaranteed.

That's one thing Fanstory does for us, Lov'n. It gives us something to think about other than our aches and pains and wondering if when you do go, you've already went.

The poet hit the bull's eye with the description of the aging body. The desire to "put aside some of the aging process", I believe is shared by all aging people who find their bodies decompensating. The quote by C. S. Lewis fits well as an illustration for this work.

The aging process is indeed a unique experience. I think you did a very nice job of pointing out just how the changes nudge there way into our existence.

I do think that in the sixth paragraph a change could be made so the word "bodies" would read as "body's" and thereby show the possessive form. A small thing, but something that caught my attention.

I thank you for the poignant commentary. Good luck in the contest.

Dear Barbara, when I reread my comment to you, I noticed that I had made an error in using the word "there" when I should have used "there". That should teach me to do a little better job of proofing my own work. Please keep writing.

I goofed again by not putting in the word "their". I think I will go to bed now.

An excellent story many could relate to. I very much liked that expression: ""You don't have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body."

You bring out well how sometimes we can be still young in heart and mind, but our bodily functions betray us. A little sad and very grippling story, thank you so much for sharing it with us.
