The poem's opening line was the best.

The near-rhymes may interfere with the contest rules (theory/glory, water/disaster) so you may want to re-thing them; ABAB.

I wrote a poem about the lunar eclipse tonight, too, called "Blood Moon, Shadow Moon;" I hope you have time to drop by and read it.

Good luck in your writing.

This poem has a lot of truth in it. I assign the relatively recent wars and economic struggles to the refusal of our leaders to realize they were taking us into the 1930s again.

This was so very good. Lots of wisdom in these lines. You are right - our future is in our past, and we reap what we sow. We should learn from the past and move on, not repeating our mistakes. I loved how you laid it all out. I also needed this today, for some reasons of my own.

Great lines:

Always remember: As you sow, so shall you reap
And it mirrors 'cause and effect theory';
Stir your past deeds where verity lies half asleep
And displays ways to success and glory!

Thank you so much for this delight. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

a well written abab poem, advocating not to let the past overshadow your future. these are wise words indeed. We suffer if we do not learn and move on.

Recall: History leads the wise and drags the fool,
It's an old saying, but still holds water;
Let's learn from it as we do from the nature's rule
And feel quite free from any disaster!

unfortunately some of us has not learned for the wrongs of the past.

Well done, good luck in the contest. Mary

Hi. Good luck in the contest. This is a super pome in both meter and rhyme. The message is clear and the words are not forced.

This is a well written, extremely poignant piece. It has an excellent flow to it and follows the pattern criteria well. It holds slight sadness because history does always appear doomed to repeat itself, no matter how much one may think they've learned. The phrase at the top with the image is truly existential and the eclipsed photo and color scheme adds wonderful imagery to your words. Good luck in the contest!

Hi RPSaxena,

History casts a very long shadow. I think it was Pliny who wrote that he who forgets his past is doomed to repeat its failures. Something I think our current political classes would do very well to ponder.

Nicely put in your excellent poem.

Patrick

Well said and true indeed. We should not be shackled by the past but learn from it and move on.

I like the juxtaposition of philosophical thoughts and images: "This truth survives in life as in rose resides scent" Lovely!

The image chosen is a perfect fit. The black backdrop depicts sinister shadows that consumes if we are not careful and the disc with the halo of light augurs a better future if we "sow wisely their prolific seed"

Look forward to reading more of your profound thoughts.

So very true, the past is a direct influence, shadow on the present, and as such, time moves forward...we can always tell where we've been, and because of where we've been, often where we're going...great entry! Blessings to you tonight!
