Exceptional

You deserved six stars for this exceptional poem on a subject close to us, readers. Yes, the love we show to the departed may be a bit too late for they no longer need it. When they were still alive, we failed to shower them with concern. I hope this poem will serve as an eye-opener to others. Thanks for sharing.

The rhyming and flow are excellent. It allows for smooth, easy reading. The message within the poem also leaves us with something to ponder upon. The old adage is true: love them while they're still here. :-) Best wishes on the contest.

I know ....right....My husband and I see his parents every week. It's quite a long drive. A friend asked if they were sick. He said no but that's why he was going. They enjoy each other's company. My son comes with his family and we enjoy brunch together. It's so important to have no regrets...
Your poem is an inspiration...well done
God bless

To the author of My Funeral. BITTER. It's just a little bitter, but probably deserved. I doubt that there will be anyone crying at my funeral. My daughters argue now over what each of them deserve in the will. My grandchildren may miss me though. I enjoyed the smile regarding your poetic words. Carole

Thanks for the review. That's the problem, people just don't realize that the time is now to show their love. I think the reason some people cry at funerals is because they realize it is too late and the person is gone. Judester

Thanks for the flowers,
a little too late.

Love those lines!

This is straight to the point and should be given to everyone with elderly parents, I think. Or elderly friends, tho they usually DO spend time with each other. Grandkids should spend more time with them too. But people are "too busy" and then it's too late. Sad. Great poem, tho! :)

Yeah, too busy. I am sure if someone missed their little nail appointment or lost the plot for a day on a soap opera they would find the time.Spending an afternoon visiting, they would actually get joy from it too, thanks for the review Judester

Don't forget that you are now allowed to vote for yourself, so do it if you have not done it. There's a HUGE tie for first place.. with you, of course.

This is good. It just proves that we, as humans don't take life seriously sometimes like we ought too. I appreciate the truth. Good job.

Nicely done, perfectly written, and sadly true! I wonder how many feel this way?You took the thought and really built a great poem around it.

I recently attended a burial of a young man.
As people were laying wreaths, one boy made this comment:"Where were these loved ones
when he needed them most?"
This is what I have found in this poem.
This is a wonderful poem and I give a six to it. We need friends and relatives when we are still alive. Thank you for sharing such a poem. I wish you the best in the contest.

That's so true, Mystery Poet, and I've said it several times already. Why are people who never visit, or call, or attend family functions, or write...the list could go on, and on... why are they the first ones to break down and begin crying at that person's funeral. Is their need for attention so great, it had to over shadow the reason for everyone being there? It's as if it is all about them, and not the deceased. It truly makes me ill when I witness it. I even told one aunt of my wife's, after her mother had passed. At her funeral, this sister bawled and wailed like their heart was breaking, yet although she lived less than 20 minutes away, she never called or visited my mother-in-law. So, I whispered quietly to her on about the fourteenth cry of Oh, why!, and politely told them that if they cared so much, a visit would have been appreciated once in a while. They instantly shut up!

Well done, and good luck to you in the contest.

Thanks for the review and good on you for setting them straight. People always say they have no time for a simple visit, yet they are off getting nails done and watching soaps. What they don't realize is that by giving their time to someone, they actually feel better than that shopping trip.Judester

I love the image conjured up by the first two lines: The white silk feels cool/
against my cheek,"

Your poem is cleverly written where you contrast the beauty of the flowers against the cold hypocracy of the grievers.
