A great5-7-5 poem. It is very expressive, and flows well. I really enjoyed reading it, because it expresses being let with a harsh reality very well.

Behind cold, steel bars- this line says much in the context of the poem. As a child, perceptions of this father were as a hungry prisoner longing for love. As an adult, memory of him , her heart betrayed by his [inappropriate] love has locked you in that place of betrayal and shame. Excellent 5-7-5 that communicates with depth. Keep healing.

A beautiful piece of artwork that adorns this qualifying 5-7-5 contest entry! It tends to be a little ambiguous in nature, nice descriptive, image creative words. Well done, I think, blessings, Roy.

Thank you for sharing your opinion. The ambiguity is a portrayal of how one can be scorned by love, yet yearn for things to go back to the way they were before things went awry, equivalent to a love/hate relationship.

Writing sad songs often has a way of healing a situation. It gets the hurt out in the open into the light, out of the darkness.
Blessings, Rouskin

Hi Willow,
There are many examples of this style of poetry. This is one painful, powerful and effective. Heartache is such a personal thing, but pouring out your heart with poetry is a fine way to aid in healing. I wish you luck and thank you for sharing this with us.

Sincerely,
Njorgensen

One can truly be imprisoned when the chains are from their own makings. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words. Good luck in your contest.

Betrayed by love and felt unwanted is a devastating thought to live with.
Abandonment and left waiting to feel his love can be a torture with lots of pain and anguish inside.
We begin to ask "Why me?".
All these questions have no answers except that missing person can explain.
On a bleeding heart tree are the surrounding teardrops with one teardrop dripping from the stigma - and it is this stigma that will always come back to haunt, longing for a simple embrace to wipe that tear away.
Great write and well expressed about betrayal.
Cheerio, hugs, Ritchie. :))

I enjoy sharing in other's perspective, even if it may not match the author's per se. Different lifestyles will produce different viewpoints. It enlightens me to angles I may not have considered and can give a slight insight on another's world. Words can be so revealing. Cheers!

Yes, young kids or teeners adolescent angst over their parents may only be confirmed to be wrong, when the kids themselves are in jail and have proven that their parents counsels are in themselves true after all. Thanks for sharing.
