I haven't ever heard of a bleeding heart tree and believed this to be an orchid. You story is sad and I hope you get away from any feelings of guilt which so often comes ready to embrace life.

Thank you for taking the time to review my piece and for your words of comfort. I appreciate the lovely stars. I don't know if this hyper link will work, but if you cut and paste it into your browser, it should take you to the appropriate page. I tried my had at growing a bleeding heart in the past, but unfortunately I don't have much of a green thumb. Perhaps one day I will give it another go. These are truly amazing flowers. Perhaps they are related to the orchid; I should brush up on my research in the meantime. Thank you again. Peace be with you. https://tse4.mm.bing.net/th?&id=HN.608031970397257852&w=300&h=300&c=0&pid=1.9&rs=0&p=0

The link worked fine. It is an interesting plant and the blossoms are beautiful. Orchids are epiphytes and grow anchored to plants but not generally rooted to them. Bleeding heart tree - Bleeding heart tree (Omalanthus populifolius), of the family Euphorbiaceae, an Australian rainforest plant, also known as Queensland poplar

I'm glad the link worked and thank you for the in depth lesson on both plants. I actually have a friend who lives in Queensland, so now the Bleeding Heart has an additional meaning to me. Thanks, friend :)

good luck in the contest

your few chosen words allow the reader to see and feel the betrayal of love between two people and now one behind bars for it
longing now for love to be embraced in true respect of a relationship is never too much to want

strong message in so few words

That is a very lovely art work of The Bleeding Heart. One thing I love about being a poet, it does relieve much stress from the many battles of life. So glad you wrote this off your chest. Hang in there, my dear.

Thank you kindly for your touching and compassionate review. Expressing my emotions has helped me a lot during this stressful time and the encouragement I've received here at FS has truly opened me up to wanting to explore my writing even more--I'm working on my first children's book now. I appreciate the lovely stars. Peace be with you.

575 meter was fine
picture was gorgeous
the message of a loved one behind bars is clear
a note: in the second line, "Her heart betrayed by his love" - didn't you mean he betrayed her love by doing something? It reads the other way around, I think. JMO

Nice contest entry, regardless. Good luck!

Thank you for sharing your insightful perspective on the piece and for the lovely stars. I understand where you're coming from about the second line. It was written that way to show that her heart was betrayed by his love (of something deeply morally wrong) I hope that clarifies the line for you. Peace be with you.

Willowsong, I'm really sorry you've been hurt. Truth is sometimes a real disappointment. But people can't be who they're not, no matter the consequences. It's worse when we feel like we've fooled ourselves. Hugs. :) nancy

Thank you for such a heart felt review. I completely agree with you about it being worse when we fool ourselves. Thinking if we put it out of our mind, the truth will cease to exist when in fact it only comes back with a more powerful punch. I appreciate the generous stars. Peace be with you.

You give only a partial view of the betrayal of love as described in line two. But, you don't disguise the emotion you feel about missing him. It appears that your man has been jailed behind cold steel bars. What for? It's important because if its about abuse, then the last line has deeper meaning, than if he's deceived you and been jailed for a non personal reason. There's a lot in your tiny poem.

Thank you for spending time analyzing this piece. You are correct about where the person is and yes, it deals with abuse but also the deception of hiding the abuse for so many years only for the truth to be finally uncovered and my ideals of this person dashed upon the sharp edge of jagged rocks beneath a cliff. I truly appreciate the generous stars. Peace be with you.

Sometimes it pains one to see the real and monstrous image of somebody who has been idolized.

Also, it is pain to see one, long seen as as hero, unmasked and seen as somebody to be despised.

But be glad, as I am glad for you to have poetry as an outlet for your emotions. You can rage and curse, let it out and scream yourself to exhaustion. Poetry has an amazing cathartic and healing effect because turning emotions into words is almost an expression of the soul.

There is a dual symbolism in all three lines. "Behind cold, steel bars" could be both real an metaphorical. Taken from the perspective of both, the bars are barriers separating one from the other. And from the same views, "Longing for embrace" holds true for both.

Bleeding heart, indeed. There is a tragic contrast in your poem between the cold bars at the beginning and the "longing for embrace" which is usually a warm image. This effectively communicates a tumultuous mood of mixed emotions. Thank you for sharing.
