Nicely done! This little number is what horror and the supernatural is all about. I love that the character starts out the story so together and sure of himself. As the story goes on, he becomes increasingly more frantic, as does the writing, the pace shifts into overdrive and bam! You hit the end of the story like a ton of bricks. Excellent work!
I did have a piece of spag for you:

then I hailed a cab and make my way home.
-"make" should be "made" if you are keeping to tense.

Great job and good luck with the contest.

Hah ha, well, if one mistake is all that you could find, I don't feel so bad, heh heh! Hey, thanks for catching that for me, T.J. I'm sure you noticed, there's a lot of purposeful, intricate "tense jumping" going on here to carry the story, and I thought I had them all in order.

You picked up on the draining effect I wanted to convey in my protagonist as the story moves along and reaches its final climax. I always said you were one sharp cookie, lol.

Thanks for such an outstanding review, and for all of those shining stars!

This is an absorbing account, writing about the folly of buying things of questionable origins! This was an absorbing, imaginative tale from beginning to end! It never really lost momentum at any stage in its developing narrative! It springs from a very fertile consciousness, and commend you on a superb write! I would shy away from critiquing something of this ilk normally, but was drawn to this one! Well done, blessings, Roy,

Well, thank you Roy, that's a wonderful compliment. My view on horror tales is the less blood & guts, the better the story.

    Thanks so much again.

Just to show you how old I am, I started writing on this a similar typewriter. This is quite an original write and quite thrilling to have a mysterious typewriter that types on its own. Maybe I could use one to help me break free from writes bloc?

Heh, that would be great, Don, if it were possible. However, I don't think you'd want this one sapping your soul. I sincerely thank you for an entertaining and outstanding review.

Very nice ghost story. Very chilling and could imagine the horror that the character felt every time he though he'd won, only to find the ghastly thing sitting right where he'd left it. Have heard such a story before, but not about a typewriter. Now if only my computer would do that, my fingers wouldn't get so tired. LOL

This is an excellent entry to the ,"There's No Such Things as Ghosts." Writing prompt.

It certainly kept my interest without, wondering where you would be taking the storyline.

Good luck in the contest.
