Comment from Karen B.
Very informative and well-written. I remember making butter with my mom as a child. Most of the time we used an old wooden butter churn, but sometimes the method you describe. Nothing better than homemade butter on fresh-from-the-oven sweet rolls. Thanks for the wonderful memories. :)

Butter and cheese was plentiful - were plentiful
You set the stage effectively in your opening
vivid descriptive detail
several dozens of eggs, we headed home - add the comma
I love your humor in your explanation of what to do while waiting for the next step LOL
cream separator, and sometimes - add comma
When I visit Daisy, - add comma
You have an engaging narrative style in this delightful story that comes complete with bonus directions on making butter :-) Brooke

Comment from Sagnik Das
Carolyn, wonderful extravaganza, brimming over with candidness, & a flare of nostalgia that reminds me of Dahl's 'Charlie And The Chocolate Factory', which I happened to read while at school. Here one finds a sublime reverberation of your passion for cuisine (you have personally been an avid chef, as I know!), & it shows: every word rings out with your flare of appreciation for the craft.
The inculcative virtues of respect, decency, modesty & piousness are all imbibed. Like an ever-alarming sentinel, they bewray an individual's integral self to the world at large ... Much thankful to Providence thus, you ought to remain, Carolyn, for being born into such a genial & lovely family... You are the epitome of everything exalted & sacred (to me at least), & I look upon you as an exemplar.
Enlightening work, my friend! :)

Here I am, in Midwestern Ohio, surrounded by cows of all types, shapes and sizes, and I had no idea how butter was made until I read your wonderful story. Kinda sad, wouldn't you say? We have several Amish families in our area who sell fresh dairy milk, but I never saw he appeal in purchasing it until now. I'm going to take you perfectly penned instructions, buy some fresh dairy milk, and give 'er a whirl. After all, it's gotta be better than Blue Bonnet.
Great tale, notesandmore. Very informative.

It's the old fashioned way, but hey, if you are from a family of ten, the then modern churns were hard to come by. However, the 'mason' jar was plentiful. I hope you enjoy your experience. If you have any questions the Amish ladies probably would be delighted to answer them as well. Thanks for reading and enjoying this one Dean, :-) Carolyn

Sounds like a cool way to keep kids busy as well as productive. Oh oh, that might be considered child labor.
A fascinating process. No wonder pioneer women had no time to have affairs. LOL

I wish I could try the wY you did it.
It is a lovely description, reminding me of my own life back home. My. Dad had cows and a large field. He loved his cows as his life. Onehe almost killed me for being negligent with one of the caws.
He cried.
Believe me ,i thoroughly enjoy this story. You must write more of this.
As for my sister in law, well , there is a little or no chance. She has just been put on a ventilator? No one can tell what happens tomorrow.
My wife is staying with the family and looking after The children.
And supporting them? I am on my own ,that why I write having nothing else to do. Saves my mind.
Take care.

Thanks Bennie for your fine comments. There is something calming and serene about a field of cows. I am so delighted you enjoyed the story. Sometimes I wonder if stories like this one would be of interest, and then I find that it is. Overwhelmingly so. Take care while your wife is gone. It can be a lonely time for all of you. Good Night my far-away friend. :-) Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,
This is a cute little story about making butter. One set of my grandparents, on my mom's side, lived on a farm and they made their own butter. As a child, I would sit in a highchair and suck on raw bacon. Or so my mother said. No wonder I was a fat little girl.

A real mouth-watering write, here. I can feel my veins clogging! I love good butter and cream. Never have made it, however. This seems more like a true story than fiction(?) Thanks for sharing your homespun experiences.

This reads more like non-fiction to me but none the less a very good write. We have a small farm here in the mountains of California, Fresh eggs, Milk the goats for cheese, Spin wool from the Angora goats. Make butter the whole 9 yards. Good write. I made a butter churn out of an old crank salsa maker and the butter is made in less than two minutes. If your in a hurry. times the slower method is preferred. Don

I actually have three methods that I can churn the butter, this being the slowest and the most rewarding. When I want it done in a flash, I use my kitchen aid upright mixer, about 5 min flat. I am so glad you enjoyed this one. It is a true story. I will check on that. :-) Carolyn
