Wow! What a touching story! I nearly cried. Your descriptions were vivid, and you made it easy for the reader to envision this dear lady and desire to help. Poverty is everywhere, and we should all be more proactive. Bless you for helping.

A reminder of lucky we are. there's so many people

who moan and wine about things not going there way

i do.

Nothing to moan about here.

It echoes the old classic and my personal favorite

'It's a wonderful life ', only , looked out of a

window and took pity and made a touching story .

I love the story. You blame Your country's poor on lack of social services in your country. But, America's street are full of the poor also. We have to give them some pride also. Most of these people will die on the streets. We provide food and shelter. We work on the physical but not mental problems. We wait too long and let their problems become chronic. Good work.

I am originally from the US and know of the terrible plight of the homeless. Mexico is a very poor country and has very little to offer in the way of food, health care or shelter. But we do the best we can. Many are young people with on the job injuries such as amputations. Their immediate medical care is often taken care of but there is no follow up or possibilities of future jobs. It is a sad state of affairs and needs some serious attention.

This story is so touching and real. All over the world there are homeless people that are often overlooked. Some of them have been professionals but somehow ended up on the a corner, in an alley or sitting on a ledge. We all should take the time to help someone because we don't know if that could be us one day!!! Thank you for the inspiring story

There was a time when I lived on the streets and you are right, we never know if, or when, it might be us. Thank you for your generous review. I sincerely appreciate it.

I didn't even notice the length as your comforting and conversational style drew me in right away. This piece is so filled with compassion. It is most touching and affecting to the reader. It strongly instills in the reader a sense of wanting to do something. It makes me bow my head in gratitude for the ease and comfort of my life. Like you, it shall be a long time before I complain again. A wonderful piece. A winner as far as I am concerned. Best of luck. I vote at least. mikey

Thanks for sharing this powerful story of a land that many of us may not understand. I know it doesn't tell the whole story of the counrty and the people. At the end of the day we are from one blood. Thought provoking and soul stirring writ. Stan

Dear sasha, This is a beautiful story. I felt like I knew this woman just by the few glimpses you gave of her. Americans really don't understand this degree of poor, especially for everyday life. Thank you for sharing your story.

Congratulations in this story being selected as one of the best of the month. It's not just very well written with the adequate words, but it's written with love and compassion. You are God's messenger, that's what you are.

Hello Smurphgirl...I see you have a huge heart, and it shows in this essay. Sadly, the U.S. has too many just like this lady too. Where I live, there is a woman who's mentally ill and she lives on the streets. I've given her rides, and talked to her. She is over 60 and needs to be where she's safe. But won't stay put. Won't take handouts. She offered ME gas money once. So wrong for anyone to be homeless...and helpless. I've been there too. Bless you for being kind. A. /best in the contest too.

Thank you very much. It is so hard to see so many people who have no place to go, no money for food, and just wasting away as each day passes. I have been there too and I was younger and healthier too.

Very well written. The picture painted is quite vivid and stays with one long after reading the words. One wishes this was just a story and not an accurate account of one of the innumerable circumstances of similar people in many places, including the US, who endure extremely difficult lives with dignity. The author's compassion is admirable. Her guilt may be something to work on. However, the lesson and the message that we should all recognize how fortunate we are is conveyed very effectively. So few people today seem able to identify with that sentiment.
