After reading the author notes, I can understand the feelings expressed in this poem. The illustration is outstanding and captures the mood and tone of the poem, each stanza makes a valid point and digs deep, dark but vivid colors, sad realities, but a clear look at them thru this poem.

Dean what a change from reading you great horror /thriller stories and poems

I didn't realize that you could as you say write in a mood that is so melancholy.
PS of course Excellent rhyming.

Thanks, Gert. I believe I'll avoid the evening news from now on. I'll just continue to watch my old horror flicks at night, they are a lot less scary!

Well, I'm sure depressed now! I've started watching the news again after a break of six months. Fortunately, ABC features the upbeat too. Nice double use of "blue." A lot of good examples to support your sadness. Love the metaphor:a tear-filled water balloon;

Thanks, Spit, I really appreciate that! At least some news channels are trying to focus on the good things once in a while, and that's a good thing in and of itself! People can sure use some good news for a change...

Hi Dean,

I'm sorry you've been feeling melancholy, but I can certainly understand why. Regarding the Syria situation, I've just been angry as hell. It's like a nightmare!

Your music matches the mood of this poem so well and the image is extraordinary. Now, snap out of it, kiddo, and give us another horror tale. Maybe you could use Obama as the subject of a bullet through the brain by an ordinary housewife turned crazy from frustration.

Oh, no! What if someone from the FBI is reading this!

Hugs,
Lou

I like your write and how you wove each thought into a message...but the message seems to have been said over and over again.. I remember well having to read Upton Sinclairs books way back when.. Describing the life and times of immigrants in Chi Town in late 1800's early 1900's
WW 1 WW 11 the holocaust Korea and my fav, Viet Nam.. DDT poisoning So many things what you say is true but it has been a lot worse ..But I do like the way you write Now that's what this site is all about I do believe ..Just some of my thoughts on a lazy Sunday Day sipping a Mia Tai in Hawaii lol

Sure, TK, of course it' been said many times before. Why , do you suppose, that is? Many poems are written about butterlies, countless poems have been penned about love, life laughter and, most of all, Christ. But, oh Christ, why do things keep getting worse, and more dire, as the years progress? Why have we not learned as a people to get along, make room for differences and uniqueness?

I felt it was worth repeating again...

i agree 100% just my way of ranting on A Sunday knowing things always will repeat themselves just disguised in a differnt costume

Does age do this to us...fill our hearts with sorrow
for all the things we've lost and all the lost tomorrows?
As years pile up, does the world lose all it's wonder
or is it true, man brought us here by thoughtless blunder?
I used to have such optimism, I used to believe we'd overcome
how mindless we can be at times.....how dumb
we humans are....I used to believe mankind would evolve
but the older I get - the more we seem to devolve.

Your message makes me very sad...but I simply can't deny it

Yeah, Leineco, I think age probably does have a little to do with it. You're right about something else, too. We seem to be getting dumber as a species instead of smarter. Will we never learn?

Thanks for your great insights and review, my friend!

Hi Dean,
I really enjoyed this reflective poem and I agree that the world is in a sorry state.
I love the poem is from the viewpoint of a human spirit looking down onto earth from above.
One thing in particular that you mentioned that is close to home for me is the xbox fascination that the kids now have and their reluctance to play out. I face the battle on a daily basis with my 8yr old son - he gets 30mins xbox time each day but he tries to bargain for more. I wish we'd never bought one...
Also, our family seem to be in the minority with all 3 of our kids having the same parentage and us still being happily married. How times have changed...
Very well written and as always marvellous presentation :)
Kindest regards, Debra

Thanks, Debra, I truly appreciate your wonderful comments.

Yeah, our kids are right there with yours. They've got two loving parents who also love and respect each other. They were born the outdoorsy-types, too. They are rarely inside the house on a beautiful summer day, or even a rainy one, for that matter. My daughter rides horses and volunteers at a riding stable, and my son, you couldn't keep him inside with an anchor!

I fly high beside the sil'vry moon
our world, a tear-filled water balloon;
yes, I'm up here, you're below, 'tis true--
I have never seen the world so blue...

Neither have I Dean, neither have I. Your poem is so beautiful and says it all. Sigh.

I can't help but rate this as such and even this seems inappropriate for such a wonderful piece of art. From the fantastic picture and colors that highlight your work and don't forget music to touch the soul of any reader of this unforgettable piece. I will read this to my Yai Yai, Greek for grandmother, I bet you anything, she is so tender, that she will burst into tears. If she cries over my poetry, she will dissolve into liquid over this piece. So very well penned. I am at a loss for words. Yours, Teresa.
