Hello, I haven't read any of the previous chapters, but this really caught my attention. the story in this segment was easy to follow even without the background and you built up the tension in a great manner, letting it end in a cliffhanger. So well done!

five stars for the fact that this is a short excerpt from a long work and rather hard to judge on plot, content or indeed anything other than the dialogue. As this is convincing and manages to maintain the suspense it does all it should. However, even from what there is the reader gets the feeling that the authoress is better at doing heroines than heroes, or maybe just prefers writing like that."my temper and male pride is why" is an example of what I mean. This may well be true of the character and portrays what the writing wants us to think of him, but if there is one person who would not have introduced the word 'male' at that point it is the character himself. But a small quibble in what looks like it could be a good yarn. Only thing that puzzled me was describing the house in Boston as antebellum. My latin tells me that means before the war, but which? North v South suggests the civil war, but I imagine other chapters are more explicit. A potentially good read.

Yes, more chapters would explain some things, even why Cash said that about the male pride. He took a hit for it earlier. Thank you for the kind review.

Thank you for posting another good chapter. It flows really well and I could easily perceive the scene in my head. This chapter has the element of suspense explicit. Where is Paige and what happened. I enjoyed reading it.

Now Barbara you leave us in suspense. I wonder what's going on. Is there someone hiding upstairs? I always enjoy your writing, you know how to keep your reader interested. I'll be waiting for the next chapter.
Have a nice week.

Ooh, you've got me on the edge of my seat here as Cash and Billy dig for clues to the whereabouts of the missing women. It keeps a breakneck pace, but is fairly easy to follow. It's not surprising the house is ransacked. I look forward to reading another chapter.

Great job! I love the furthering characterization of Billy Joe. I have a distinct image of exactly what he looks like. And Cash...sigh...what a good guy. Even though Paige has been standing her ground, Cash come running! Love it!

Cash to the rescue!! I hope. I'm so dying to find out who this is and what the motive is. I have a couple of theories, but I'll have to wait to see if I'm correct.
I hope the growl is the pup.
Great post, Barbara. Way to leave us hangin' on, for goodness sake! I expect longer posts when your summer break has started.
Got that? LOL!
Hugs,

You write dialogue so well, I could picture the characters by the way they talk. It was my pleasure to read this post. Thank you for sharing.
