Hmmmmm, definitely more questions than answers. The next thing you know, Paige will be going home with Cash, for safe-keeping!

I wish Paige would go home with Cash, so we could move this one along a little faster, but she doesn't. LOL

Okay, now we are having a Ghostbuster moment. No one human could have made the mess in the other room withoug Billy Joe hearing something. Cash is gonna have to really accept that there might actually be a spirit clinging to the house.

And heck no I don't blame Paige for thinking of going home. I know it sounds cowardly, but when it comes to biggots, you can never be to careful.

Again another addictive chapter. Well done.

Paige isn't used to bigots or the southern class system. Thank you for the kind review.

Hi Barbara:)
I had some kind of stomach upset all week and got behind on my reviewing. I am glad I finally got to this post. Tensions are rising as somebody seems bent on scaring Paige out of her home and maybe back home to Boston as Cash appears more and more interested in keeping Paige in Savannah.

Does someone just want to get rid of Paige because she ignores old southern protocols or is there a more sinister purpose?

I still think there must be a treasure hidden in the house. Many family fortunes were hidden from Sherman' army during the Civil War so this is a probable promise.

I only found one grammatical error: 'Both men nodded. Billy Joe pecked Mary Pat's cheek as he walked [passed ==>past]'. {A common mistake. See:

Love and Irish Hugs for another cliffhanger,

Roger

I even checked my dictionary on that little pesky past. I struggle with it each time. Thank you for the kind review. I hope you are feeling better.

Five stars for Chapter 38. This spooky account is predominantly dialogue, and quite short on action or progress, except for getting a padlock on the secret door. I always seem to give five stars because your dialogue is good, but this chapter has not really contributed very much. Think about it. Be well.

Mystery upon mystery, its not drawn out for me. Makes the story even more interesting. Both men seemed too casual me when they saw that the parlor was in disarray. Perhaps there are more secret passages?

Thank you for the kind review. I didn't want the guys to come off whimpy, so maybe I went to far the other way. I will check it out. Thank you for the review.

This is a great chapter for the story, I haven't seen the rest of the story, but with these characters realization, I know that the tension is going to continue to build. I love how you made the dialogue realistic to fit the characters as well. Great story, and good luck on finishing the rest of it.

I really like all the drama and suspense in your story. I also love Cash's protective nature towards Paige, and how he doesn't want to leave her in the house alone. I can't see any fault in this. I look forward to the next post :-)

When Cash returned, Billy Joe studied his face. "It took you a while. Was something wrong?"

"Our supplies have been rummaged through. Nothing's missing, just messed up."

"That's strange."

"Yep. I'll put a new lock on it in a little while."

"Should we call the cops?" Billy Joe removed the toothpick he'd been chewing and put it into his shirt pocket.

"And tell them what? We have a ghost-infested house with secret staircases and tunnels. Oh yeah, don't forget the KKK left a mysterious note on the front door." Cash missed the nail he was hammering and hit his thumb. "Shit! Nothing's going right."

"You have a point. With that information the cops'll put us in the loony bin. After we get this taken care of, we'll check things again and call it a night. You're staying here, right?"

"Yep." Cash's eyes met his buddy's.

Billy Joe leaned against the wall. "I hope this doesn't open another stairwell. Me and Mary Pat'll stay, too."

"Our lives were peaceful until Paige moved here. How can one woman attract so much trouble?"

"No idea." Billy Joe shrugged his shoulders. "Maybe 'cause she's a Yankee."

I enjoyed this one very much!
Great work!
