Wow this is getting to be most exciting!
Looking forward to the next read...
Some thoughts ...
Shined it on the wall - I would use 'shone' ,but I guess shined is American English
After Cash set Paige the bed ... not quite sure what you mean here
Mary Pat tilted her head (not titled)
after church Sunday (did you mean after church on Sunday?) - church lower case c

Some good suspense here at the end. Is the intruder a person or a ghost? I can sympathize with Paige's plight about moving to the South. I've run into some of the same old crap. The odd thing is that I lived for two years in Austin when I was in college in a predominantly poor black area of town - because I could afford the rent. It wasn't until I moved to Florida (into a very white town) that I really noticed anything.

took you (to) Sunday dinner
serious girl friend - girlfriend, unless you are stressing here that she means a friend who is a girl

Barbara,
The suspense is definitely getting higher with each chapter with Billy Joe finding the secret passage behind the kitchen cupboard leading to the wardrobe in Paige's room. With Cash and Billy Joe outside looking around, Mary Pat hears what she perceives to be someone in the house. She gets her gun.
After Cash set Paige (on) the bed,
"The man who took you (to) Sunday dinner to meet his mama.
The chapter is well-written and reads smoothly.

A secret staircase! Just what this old house needs. I'm sure many old houses had them, and possibly tunnels. Reminds me of the early Nancy Drew, "The Secret Staircase" in which there was a tunnel connecting two houses. There is a lot of suspense and tension building in this. Love the humor of Mary Pat's observation that a certain southern boy would miss her if she moved back north, and Paige says she'll take the dog with her. Morgan does come in handy, as he alerts Paige and Mary Pat to an intruder in the house. Excellent chapter. Hope you're enjoying spring break. judi

This has such suspense and mystery - secret
doors and passages - just great. Plenty of excitement
in this story with good natural dialogue throughout.
Marvellous that you found such an appropriate picture.
The man who took you (for or to) Sunday dinner to meet his mama.

I think the swelling's gone down - add the apostrophe
Good dialogue throughout
You continue to sustain a sense of suspense and mystery with the unaccounted for noises and secret staircase, etc
another good cliffhanger ending

A little excitement as the prowler has a death-wish to invade the premieses with Cash and Billy Joe there, plus Mary Pat and Cash have weapons. Paige has done her best to keep Morgan out of the fight. Very well written.
