Your story of remembrance of those you have lost is heart breaking and yet it is the circle of life. That is easier said than done I know. You have done well for this contest, good luck. We all have our stories of death of some sort or another, and we all can share with your your feelings of those sad times. To see and experience death is an account that we don't want to see again, yet life go on around us. Thank you for sharing your story. Happy Holidays.

You've told really well the story of having faced death 4 times and in particular expressed your emotions in great detail concerning the way in which your pet's life had to come to an end. It must have been an awful feeling, knowing that you had to make that decision, as you describe in your last paragraph so clearly. Thanks for sharing a well-written story.

Been there, done that too many times. Very well written and thought out and a story that many of us animal lovers can definitely connect with. Great job and good luck with the contest.

The searing honesty displayed here (not to mention the considerable writing talent) make this piece about encounters with death outstanding.

This is poignant and quite well written. You help me feel the emotion you felt at each death, but I see why the one you gave the final permission for might have triggered the most emotion. Good luck to you, Jeanie Mercer

I love the story. Yes, you had to give death permission to come after "Lucy". You knew it was right for her.It wasn't right for you. You would have keep Lucy even just one more day. But she was in too much pain. Great work.

Wonderful writing. Your story tugs at the heart of all of us who have lost someone, maybe even those we didn't know well. Although no one gets out of this life alive, passing encourages reflection as your piece has done. As a pet lover and the "mother" of an elderly dog (now in diapers) I am struggling with the same decision you had to make with your Lacey. I'm not quite there yet. I think this one is the hardest because each of us has to make the decision to end a life--not God.

I am only too happy to give your story another review. I do think it is better than the first version -- and I compliment you on taking my critique seriously without taking offense. It is what I want from my critics. Merry Christmas!

Thank you for reviewing. I'm happy with the sentence structure generally, but I did revise the line with 'inability' in it. I had to re-read it a few times before relenting. I left that word in, but found some more words to ease it into place better. Happy days!
