barbara:

Cash is a man determined not to have his nails painted.
After all the proof before him today, I believe his
toenails should be painted, also. Now I'm trying to
remember the ghosts from the graveyard that Cash saw
and would not "recognize" as ghosts because then he
would have to be a believer.

thanks for sharing
love,
jan

Your dialog really lets us know Cash and Billy joe

Great

"I'm fine. There's nothing here that wants to hurt me. Just tease a little. Probably a deceased relative of Cash." Paige laughed.

"I don't see how you can make jokes about this." Mary Pat paused. "Do you think it could be that guy who was here this afternoon?"

"You mean Dr. Walker?"

The ghost is really starting to make its presence known now. I think this post shows perfectly Paige and Cash's personalities. Paige is obviously not afraid of the ghost, and shows her brave side. While Cash continues to be stubborn, and stands by his belief of ghosts not existing. I can't wait to find out exactly what this ghost wants, and if Cash will ever believe they exist.

I love all the poltergeist activity in this chapter, Barbara. Too bad Cash didn't see the banging doors and other phenomenon. But you make a good point. When a person's mind is closed, there's not much that can change it. I suspect, though, that he's going to be facing even more challenges from the ghostly presences. Excellent chaper, as always.

Warm regards, Bev

Oh boy Paige talks to the ghost now? She has a lot of strength and Cash doesn't know what to make of it. Hmmm, neither do I. This ghost does the craziest things. Doesn't he?

Maybe it's not a ghost after all.

Barbara,

So the ghosts came out to play. This is an excellent chapter centered around a televised baseball game. I'm glad it's a friendly ghost, and I think Cash should let Paige paint his fingernails.

I have one general comment and found two unimportant nits:

At one point, we heard Cash's internal thoughts; at another, we heard Paige's. You might catch some flak about this, but not from me. I try to write my chapters from the POV of a single person. But then, my writing is mostly first-person. In her Liu Hulan series of books, Lisa See followed the internal thoughts of both her main characters, Liu Hulan and David Stark. I thought there was a bit too much "telling" where she described the thoughts, but had no problem with her exploring one mind and then another.

Here are the two nits:

"Newton's first law said [says], 'An object at rest stays at rest unless an unbalanced force acts upon it.'...Something like "Newton said" would be right, but his laws are timeless.

"...Greek Revival Amphora vase rolled across the kitchen [kitchen's] wooden floor."

Well some mysterious things are happening. Could it be a ghost or something else? I keep thinking there could be a secret passage under the house, and someone is having fun playing tricks on them. Why you are telling us you are over 21,000 words? Is this important?

Well done.

It's important because I've taken some hits because I haven't described my characters on these late pages. I want them to know that this is a much longer novel. Thank you for the kind review.

Great reading chapter. Wondering whether there will be a ghost or is the evil professor, got some shenanigans going? Cash and Paige seem to smoothing out very nicely. Does poor ol Cash get the nailpolish? Enjoying.

I will not tell if Cash get nailpolish for Paige goes camping. It should be interesting, though. Thank you for the kind review.

Wow! Things are really getting lively. And Paige is so matter of fact. I think I'd be shrieking and running for the door. Great scene with the glass, Barbara. Cash is so stubborn, refusing to broaden his mind.

But I know enough about Newton's Theory to know a glass doesn't move without help? - not sure this is a question.

I enjoyed the wee bit of science you threw in there.

I wonder if Cash will let her paint his nails? LOL!

Good read.

Hugs, Av
