Good storyline. Well orchestrated and done with clean dialogue lines. Good details to give a first reader a good view of the drift in the story.

OH, hey, Lady, parts is parts, they used to say.

It winds along neatly, especially the two men working together to setup the masseur's equipment.

The byplay between Paige and Cash adds a little spice, too.

Nicely Done,

Speaking of locks. While stationed on Midway Island, the Public Works Machine Shop was also detailed to do all of the safes and Lock work. That meant we had to open safes when the normal operator goofed resetting the combination. (The crypto office on Eastern Island, and both the CO and XO had their safes as well as the officers', chiefs', and enlisted mens' clubs. When ever there was a changeover, the new man was required to reset the four and five digit combination.)

We also made replacement keys, literally.

We started with flat stock and machined the slots and grooves to fit the locks as we had no commercially available blanks to use. (The companies didn't trust us, even though we were 1,200 miles from the nearest inhabited island.)

All of the locks had their keys, naturally, and each building might have several different keys for the various quarters and store rooms as well as the building master key. There was also the Great Grand Master Key that opened all of the locks.

The most irritating was the WOQ on the upper deck of the BOQ. It had its own fire door and it was really a production when we had to open a room because the occupant, usually one of the school teachers, had lost her key, or left the Island without turning it in. For access, I had to sign into the BOQ (being enlisted, I was in officers' country, normally forbidden). A steward was assigned to open the door after calling ahead to alert the occupants that a man was on the floor, then observe me while I worked. I could go to work then, picking the lock so I could take it back to the Shop and re-key it.

Supposedly, we made a key for every resident and a spare to be kept in a special key locker in the Station's Admin Office. (Again, the three enlisted men that made the keys could not be trusted with the responsibility of maintaining the security of these keys. You can bet no one would get the spare key if we'd had control. Our division officer would simply shrug when we had to these unnecessary rekeyings.

The Station regs stated that if someone lost a key, they had to pay a $2 charge. Then we were authorized to make a copy from the spare kept in the key locker.

The problem was that the officers and chiefs always could talk the clerk into giving them the reserve key. Then we had nothing to copy and had to pick and re-key the lock.

All of the enlisted men in dependent's housing had to turn in all of their keys, or else. Their compliance was strictly enforced before they could leave the Island on a transfer of duty station.

It never seemed to apply to the officers and chiefs, though. They would blithely leave the Island after locking up their quarters and failing to return the keys to the office.

There were lots of times when I had to take a ladder and climb up to see if I could open an upper story window to get inside to open a door.

I had lots of practice as a second story man.

If I couldn't open a window, then I'd have to start from scratch and pick a lock.

Well, the USN had its moments, too.

I loved your story. You actually could do a short story on that. I would a great story. Thank you for the kind review and the insight.

lol Oh Cash, we women need to be pampered every once in awhile. And I'd love to be a masseur too, so don't you go knocking it. :P
Sorry, I know I sound crazy talking to fictional characters, but that's part of the fun in life! Great job with this chapter and thanks for sharing.

P.S. I am rather sad that the chapter picture didn't match up with the chapter. I adore kittens. :)

barbara:

It sounds like a great afternoon to me. I am badly in
need of a massage right now, myself. Do you think Paige
would let me crash her little afternoon party? Cash is
not going to trust any male around Paige because, whether
or not he wants to admit it, he is smitten.

thanks for sharing
love,
jan

Hey there Barbara
This is a superbly written chapter. You did a great job writing this chapter where Cash changes the doorknobs and doesn't like it when the massage guy comes to set up. The name Maurice slays me, and Cash
Bear

Thank you for the kind review. Maurice is an interesting character. Cash just grew on me for some strange reason.

I personally LIKE the length of your posts. It makes it easier to focus and review them. I have Fibromyalgia and sometimes I'm in a mental fog and it's twice as hard for me to retain what I've read, but even in a ' fog ' I know what I like, and I like your style of writing.

I Think this is very intriguing and I look forward to reading more. I can't say I have ever had a massage. The only thing close to it is when I get my husband to give me a shoulder and neck rub. LOL Good read, good job and keep on writing.

I have been reading your chapters of and on and so can recollect bits and pieces of your novel. I like romantic stuff and you sure have a flair for that--and that is what makes it interesting. You write really well but that must have been told to you a hundred times. I would want to know what happens during the massages. Does Cash bash up Murice?Good yummy story. great write up. Gooloom
