I couldn't help but smile at this contest entry. Yes, when entering a challenging situation, we should take baby steps. This is excellent advice. Thank you for sharing this entry with us and good luck with the contest.

Sound advice with a perfectly fitting and adorable photo! Number one for May thus far... Congrats to you! I often falter and doubt myself before trying something new. You're so right. No need to dive into the DEEP end to see if I can swim! One toe in the water will suffice!

This 5-7-5, Baby Steps, has the proper formatting and seems to be advising the writers to pick their words well, even in a simple poem, as the simplicity requires clarity.

Hi Melissa,
What a great poem for the 5-7-5 contest! The first thing I thought of when I saw your title is the 1991 comedy movie, "What About Bob?", starring Richard Dreyfus, Bill Murray, Julie Hagerty, Kathryn Erbe, and Charlie Korsmo. It's about a highly successful psychotherapist losing his mind after one of his most needy patients, an obsessive-compulsive neurotic, tracks him down for help during his family vacation to Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. It's an extremely funny movie looking at mental health in a comedic way. But the bottom line is about progress. Any progress is important. And a mental issue, no matter how large or small, can befall anyone at any time in their life. Nobody is immune. The important thing is to learn not to get overwhelmed by things that occur in our life, but rather look at these events in small manageable parts... "Baby Steps".
I love your final line, which looks ahead to normalcy for the patient...
"the leaps come later". I especially like the pairing of "L" words, "leaps later". There is hope. It shows encouragement.
Nicely penned! I wish you "Good Luck!" in the contest.
Hugs,
Kimbob

Well written! Yes, always the tentaive baby steps first, in all aspects of life - until one has the assurance and confidence to leap, knowing and respecting one's abilities. Wonderful image to support your words.

Beautiful visual complemented with imagination in your 5-7-5 verse. Those baby steps are so important, whatever our age, in order to assess the challenge ahead. The leaps will come with confidence and experience. Well done on this excellent post (I seem to remember you're very good on these:)) Good luck! Debbie

Wow Melissa! all time best post! Congrats on this accolade. very nice idea for this contest in my favorite syllable format (-:

As I walk the treadmill, I will recall that baby steps will still burn calories. I, however, will not be leaping.

Now, that's a good suggestion to tuck away, especially for those who tend to be a bull in a china shop, charging forward without giving it much thought. Loved it!
