This is quite the political rant. I hope you can find a candidate who meets your criteria, although, I don't see one who makes that cut in the current polls. What we really need is a total do over. I can't imagine where we will find replacements for all of them, but it certainly couldn't hurt this country more than the career politicians have. I say Heaven help us all.

I liked reading this. It is always educational to hear other people's points of view. Favorite lines were:
Please find me a candidate who can provide leadership with energy, intelligence, stewardship, and dignity. I will do my best to live long enough to vote for them.

I have actually read this several times and skipped commenting. Not that it isn't good. It is.

I think you and I are equal distances from the center, with you leaning left and me leaning right. No worries, I can deal with people in the middle. I have always said the far left and far right are all crazy.

My biggest fear, and I could have entered a piece into the contest about it, was that we would have Biden and Trump again. Why??????????

Anyways, I 100% agree with your final paragraph.

There, clear as mud.

Douglas, thank for reading. So, you thought I lean left? I haven't voted left since 1976 and admitted that was a mistake. I thought I made it pretty clear; I generally prefer the conservative policies. Terry.

Must be my 50% idiot side taking over. I try not to get too political in here. Too many polarized people.

For a rant, your piece was rather calm, Terry. The nation has gone off its rocker when it comes to politics. Trump is a tantrum-throwing toddler. He spends all his time railing against persecution. I never hear him talking about the American people or his policies. What does that self-absorbed talk tell everyone? He cares about himself, and I don't understand why people don't see it.

Then we have Biden. The man clearly has issues associated with aging. Again, it is obvious to people, but still the Democrats persist in their charade.

Our choices are an infantile buffoon or a someone who may not remember what day it is--what the hell kind of choice is that? Is this best the country has to offer us?

As for the issues, where is Congress? It's their responsibility to propose and pass a budget. It's their responsibility to make and pass the laws regarding immigration. But they use these very things to hold the entire country hostage, so they keep their power. I am afraid the Republicans and Democrats don't work for the American people; they work for their respective parties. Term limits should be instituted for all government offices, but that won't happen. Unlike the UK, we have no national referendum where we can vote on a specific issue.

Well, I've prattled on long enough. It was a well written and thought-provoking piece, Terry. May we all survive the coming election.

Hi Terry, I am saddened by the state of our Nation. I hope that this rant made you feel better. The future of our Nation is on the line. Right now, it's difficult for me to find any humor in our upcoming election. I can only hope and pray that God sets us on the right path. We have approximately six months until Election day. A lot can happen in that time.

Of special note:
Religion belongs in people's hearts and lives, not in the policies of government. Let's remember our country was founded on religious freedom. That applies to those who choose not to have religion.

(Agree ... exactly.)

We all need to do our share and get out and vote. No excuses.

This was a great rant that gave clear descriptions of the problems you are facing in America at the current time. The only thing that seemed to be missing to me was the advantages that younger politicians could bring to the table. That would be a definite plus. kay

Hello Terry,
I read your rant with some interest. I don't know that it completely covered the truth as I understand it. I believe if Biden was under the same scrutiny as Trump, there would be a lot more issues that would come to light. As far as indictments of Trump go, who is bringing the indictments? The DA in New York ran on getting Trump. It doesn't sound like he stands a chance at a fair trial. The one he's involved in now, the DA, instead of going after violent criminals is trying to keep a political opponent from campaigning. He doesn't even have a leg to stand on, trying to bring criminal charges in a federal case while he's the Manhattan DA. The judge refuses to recuse himself, though his daughter is raising money for the Democratic party. I don't think Trump should be given special treatment, but at the very least I think he should be given the same rights that you and I enjoy. Take a look at all of the major cities being run by the Democratic party. How are they doing? If you can honestly say they are doing well under their current leadership, then I hope you're going to be happy when the criminals take over your town.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

Tom, thank you for reading. I thought I was pretty clear in two places I pointed out that I preferred conservative policies. I also thought I took both sides to task for not figuring out how to solve problems. I clearly never said I preferred the incumbent. I think we need a miracle. Two new younger honest candidates who offer a better vision for America. Terry.

Is there any such thing Terry? I'm sorry if I misunderstood you. I still contend that Trump is getting the shaft. It's not that I like the man, he's pompous and overbearing, but I did like his policies. I'm scared to death of what is going to happen in November. My infantile mind can't comprehend how it's all going to play out, but clearly, regardless of who gets in office, at least half the country will be royally pissed off.

First of all I want to commend you on this rant. You and your country are facing a horrible choice this coming November. You have a choice between two old farts. One is a crook and the other one is tired but has to fight on.
It's not a happy moment for America nor for the rest of the world. I don't envy you one bit.
I loved your comments about women's rights that the conservatives want to curtail if not erase.
I'm half American by the way. Ulla:)))

Terry, well remembered. My American brother and family live in Mass. We speak every week and are very close. I'm visiting in late August.
I hope you are right about the miracle. It is very much needed. :))

This is a well-reasoned and entertaining rant taking into account deficits of the Republicans and Democrats. Trump has nearly eradicated the Republican Party which I now call the GOP of Trump, after Eric Trump said about his father on Newsmax, "It's no longer the Republican Party. It's the Trump Party."

Trump continues to change his stance on abortion even though he has repeatedly bragged about overturning Roe v Wade. I think your solution is most creative turning Hegel on his head for a transformative shift that would never make it past the likes of Marjorie Taylor Greene if it includes aid to Ukraine.

The ex-president spent his lifetime using the courts for his advantage, so it isn't surprising he has racked up 4,000 lawsuits which seems to be about 500 more than when he entered the White House even though he pretends lawsuits are something totally new to him. *cough*

Wishing you great luck with the Contest Committee.

Gloria
