Actually for sound it's the opposite. The cold air means a denser molecule configuration with less particle agitation which lets the sound carry more, and cold air does not hold as much humidity. Warmer air also can hold more water vapor which further DECREASES air density (H2O in vapor form is less dense than nitrogen, which is the main element in air). Counterintuitive, right?

Now consider how much better sound carries underwater, or through a solid (like a telegraph wire). You're right though about snow absorbing/dampening sound.

Nice picture and presentation and congrats on a strong showing in the contest.

I liked your explanation of silence in your author's notes. Your poem was lovely. It had the right syllable count, and the subject matter was correct. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Thanks for the lovely review , I added the notes cause not everyone knows the magic of snow and how it brings peace and tranquility where it falls.

Indeed there is nothing more peaceful to watch than falling snow. It would be wonderful if it could cease the violence in our world. I can almost hear a preacher speaking these words in a sermon on a winter day. Rod

I love opening my shutters in the morning and being greeted to a blanket of snow .. magical but also so peaceful.. I feel I?m the only on in town.
