I like the combination of the silence and the wise hooting that breaks it as the owl begins her hunt - sound is used for deadly and serious purpose in this instance. Thanks for the share.

We have two owls that talk to each other in our backyard. Their low hoots pass back and forth between them for hours. I liked the imagery of the owl in the pitch dark of night . Great poem. Gretchen

If they say one line makes a haiku, you nailed it! A beautiful image! And graced by a perfect illustration. No criticism at all for your words. The only suggestion I can make is to centralize your words under the picture, rather than use the left margin.

I like the interplay between owl and death here as they are avid hunters, and the atmosphere that this one line creates is very haunting. I do not know exactly what a one line haiku should contain but this line does read well.

The word "deathly" sounds ominous to describe the silence. But that the owl is "wise" seems to take away the fear of death. And this one line teaches us that there is a lot of wisdom in keeping silence as the main message.

A path towards the light will always shine in even the darkest of times if we strive for it. Also, I have to say, the image you pasted on this piece of poetry fits the theme perfectly, with the fireflies surrounding the wise owl in the otherwise pitch-black forest. Your poem illustrates that perfectly, and I think it's very powerful. Good luck!

Owls sound so mysterious. We have one who lives on top of a water tower in our neighborhood. It's been there for years. Not sure it's the same owl, but it has never bothered anybody. Another owl in town is being a stinker and upsetting everybody. I guess our owl could have traveled, but why. Oh well, my mind wondered. I enjoyed reading and thank you for sharing.

That is two contrasting characters..Imagine birds are not that different from humans after all...

What is it with these birds of prey? Are owls, NIGHT OWLS only?
And I don't think they hoot as they dive in for the kill. That would defeat the purpose, so why do they hoot? Are they promiscuous birds hooting for a mate?
