If you are going to eat your food don't name it or you will never eat it, it will remain a pet and not food for the table.
That goes for all turrets deer, wild boars, piglets, ducks, rabbits, squirrels, and all others living in the wild.
People name domesticated animals then can't eat them.

Some grocery stores are starting to sell wild stuff again like bison, elk, quail eggs. Maybe hunting laws are changing. Thank you :)

I didn't know as much as I thought I did. After reading your informative, well written piece,I know more. Once there was a family priest at my aunt and Uncle's house at eastertime. I was seven. The priest left with the bunny. I thought that was cute..later I found out he was going to eat it. ;( Somehow I never forgot that memory. Anyway, Great writing and best wishes! :))

I never see hares in my town, but I do see rabbits in the park quite often along with squirrels and birds. Beatrix Potter books are still quite popular, everyone loves a cute banner Alicia, I enjoyed your fine poem about them here, love Dolly x

I knew that Hares and rabbits were different, and of course the squirrel is different again, we don't have squirrels, but we do have rabbits and hares, however they are pests because they're introduced, and the rabbits are considered a pest, they are prolific, beautiful written Alicia, well done, blessings Roy

Sorry to hear the bunnies are pesky. They do multiply easily. No rabbits or hares nearby me. There is other wildlife. God bless...

    Thank you :)

well, that is kind of strange, but informative. Hares aren't rabbits? Guess I'll have to Google that one. You have some good info in this story, but I bet there is some history about Easter Bunnies somewhere. Or, at least a story about how the tale of the Easter Bunny got started. I like that you finish with a whimsical last "verse," but thinking of eating the Easter Bunny
is strange! Quite an original tale. :)

I loved all your fun facts about rabbits. I did not know about the third eyelid. How cool! We see so many bunnies here and unfortunately, they are food for the eagles and hawks.

One suggestion:
That wrote fables about bunnies and hares. (Who) because of referring Ms. Potter who was a naturalist, too.
