Begin Again,

I am not sure how I missed this one, but tears are really streaming now! Not only is this poem extremely well written, but it is so heartfelt.

"I will remember the tiny little marigold
you brought to me on Mother's Day."...Oh my!
"I will remember your infectious laugh"

No wonder he is "engraved upon" your "mind."

Thank you...His smile lives with me always and his memories give me strength to go on. The marigold was in a little coffee cup and every one of my kids brought one home from school. Michael got to go to school early because a doctor diagnosed him as hyperactive. Once he was there, the teacher said he was bored not hyperactive. She let him stay so he went to school from January till May. He died in July. He never would have attended school except for that misdiagnosis. I saw his first day of school, his concerts, his papers, his marigold.....I was lucky! Thanks...

Oh, you were blessed to experience all of that. I admire your ability to now look at it in a positive way. Your poem was most precious and so very lovely. I just don't seem to have the words to say. Linda

I loved this poem. It's so heartfelt and guy wrenching all at the same time. What happened to Michael? I loved every word. Great job.

We were on vacation in Wisconsin. I was packing the car and he was sitting on the picnic table blowing bubbles. The next thing I know he has disappeared...a 3 hour search, destroyed cornfields, stopped interstate, and a 30 man chain in 16 in water..He had no water in his lungs though he was in the water three hours..it's listed as asphyxiation but we'll never no exactly what happened. Wonder if I have the stamina to write his story? The people involved and the mysteries are truly something to marvel over. They closed the small cabin resort afterwards.
    Thanks for asking....Carol

You've had your share of tough times haven't you. I can't imagine losing a child like that. I wonder how you've survived. Sorry to hear about that. Hugs, Joy

I had other children so I had no choice but to survive. Not always because I wanted to but because it was necessary. Thanks, CArol

Hullo Carol ...

This is a beautiful piece of free-thought writing and it is a pleasure to share with you, such treasured memories of your Michael. On the 16th of March 2007, I wrote about my Michael ... and again this year, on his 16th anniversary - the 26th of June - I posted a poem titled "He Called Me Mother Dear." You might like to read them.
Thank you for sharing this with us and, as it is a Contest entry, I wish you well.
With love from ..... Nanette Mary.

Oh, another Michael poem. I wanted to read all the entries so I could vote. "If I never see you again,
I will remember how you tried to buy
an ice cream bar and charge it to your dad" charming!!

That is one of the last memories I have of him. There was a little grocery story next to our vacation cabin and he told the clerk he needed an ice cream bar and charge it to his dad. The clerk thought it was so sweet he gave him the ice cream bar and only mentioned it after his death. Thanks so much for reading...CArol

A very moving tribute to Michael. Very good contest entry. Nothing can take the place of our memories. Four years doesn't seem very long but a lot of memories can be made in that length of time.

It was like he knew how long he was going to be here...Would you believe that because of a freak thing he even got to go to school for 3 months...so I saw his first day of school. I was blessed in those 4 years. Thanks Carol

Exquisite free verse of a mother's expression of loss and unconditional love for a child. I love the little tidbits of live you embed in each stanza. And yet another great entry in this contest.

Thanks,
Merle

oh carol, you used past tense in your notes. does that mean you lost him? i'm sorry to hear that. i had a hint of how it's going to be losing a child. almost lost mine when he was 3. he went missing for 2hrs in a crowded bus station. thank God we found him. thanks for sharing this touching write. wish you all the best. :)

Yes, after three terrifying hours of searching, a 30 man human change discovered his body in the water. Strange thing is ...only hours before when I was packing the car to go home from vacation, he told his dad he wasn't going home...he was going to see Jesus. Out of the mouth of my son came the only words that would later save my sanity. Thanks for asking....Just posted another poem with his picture....Carol

Carol, this is just wonderfully written and stunning in its emotional impact. What makes it so good are the specific vignettes - I can just see him tossing Cheerios down the stairs just to watch them make the journey or try to charge an ice cream bar - I was laughing at each new delightful scene. My heart is filled by your poem and by your willingness to share such intimate memories with us. Brooke :-)

He was a very special gift. He gave me more love and memories in four short years than most people probably know in a life time. God has a way of helping us through some of our darkest moments I guess. When he takes one thing...he gives another in return. Thank you...If you would like to see his picture, I just posted a short love poem. Thank you Carol

He was very special...I could write stories for a long time just about the things he did in four years...Sometimes it just amazes me when I think of all the living he crammed into those years...Even fought with me two weeks before he died about a red suit jacket he wanted...Now what 4 yr old child wants a suite jacket??? Except one who is going to be buried in it! Guess he knew more than I did...Thanks, Carol
