Grendel! Excellent. Takes me back to enforced reading of 'Beowulf' at university, in Anglo Saxon, of course. I knew the goat would cause trouble. They are such naughty animals. An excellent continuation. What next, I wonder?

    Hi JSD,
I remember reading it in 12th grade, or high school as we call it here. That Old English was hard to understand. I appreciated the poem better after the animated version of "Beoweulf" was released. Somehow, it made more sense seeing it in action.
Yes, goats can be trouble. Thanks for the fun review and encouragement.

Unless she discovers another on the isle where the shipwrecked wrecked her first sea voyage might be her last; in fact, even if a rescue came to be, you wouldn't catch me returning to sea ... and that's the truth.

    Hi Tom Horonzy,
Excellent insights as to Ava's situation. I agree, I would not go on a second cruise if I were her.

I love the name considering all the grief the goat gave the narrator! The goat gets a monster from British lore while all the majestic horses get names from Greek gods.
My favorite parts was the threat to haunt the goat if she were stuck in that elevator and I also liked how Apollo seemed to totally understand her direction to take care of the others.
Enjoyed the chapter and sorry to be out of sixes.

Well, now that the rescues have all been completed, I wonder what is in store for Ava and her animals. One can assume she will eventually be rescued, but in the meantime she can ride horses on the beach and make goat stew!

Great detail in your descriptions, and I appreciate that you put a couple of bumps in the road here, as life is not all smooth sailing. But I'd never get back on that elevator again!!

'til next time:-)

Interesting and engrossing story and I am pleased the goat finally settled with the horses. There will doubtless be a lot of complications as she interacts with the difficult goat plus four horses, but I am so pleased she has the love for animals and the connection with them to do her very best for them. Well written.
Wendy

Wish I had a six. I spent yesterday reading ... a lot. I did enjoy this chapter immensely. I love the connection she has with these animals. Even the stubborn goat is somehow connected to her. I caught my breath when she fell into the elevator and the lights went out. This is a very enjoyable read. Gretchen

How fascinating for this dear girl. Isn't it funny? They are such ornery creatures these goats, whereas dogs or cats, and even horses, providing they are relatively socialised, can be quite accomodating to kindness, but goats can be the opposite, but they can be good stablemates fo horses, well done, blessings Roy

    Hi Roy,
Yes, goats are independent thinkers. I worked on a horse farm and we put a goat in with a yearling colt to calm him down. That worked. But the colt was a show horse and we had to remove the goat because he was eating the colt's mane and tail. Munched on mane and tail doesn't look so good in the show ring. Ugh!
Thanks for your insights and fun comments.

I might have guessed the goat would cause you the most trouble, Debi! They're beastly aren't they and so strong. But you completed the task and, as you rightly say, must now turn your attention to yourself. Your story, as ever, is faultlessly written in very clear text and with great momentum (literally) and descriptive detail. I could feel that struggle going on! Thanks for sharing, Debbie

I virtual six, Debi! You did a great job of painting this little bearded gent as the Grendel he was, lol.
Each name chosen for the animals reflects something about their personalities. Love it!
I was afraid that goat got the best of Ava. I know some people don't realize it, but they can be quite aggressive.

Hugs,
Rhonda

This was a touch and go story. The goat was the hardest animal to deal with. I've often heard the expressing "Stubborn as a old goat" Young goats are likely stubborn as well. Hopefully there is enough food on the boat you are able to get to, to stay alive. I'm enjoying the story.
