Day 23, a spring planting poem

A chapter in the book An April shower of Poems

Farmers Field

by Carolyn 'Deaton' Stephens

Plow and dig and break the ground
Planting time is coming round
Alfalfa, corn and beans abound
To meet the needs of Farmer Brown

Yellow haze on rapeseed field
Tons of rapeseed oil will yield
When harvest time and combine wield
Financial drought will be repealed

Rain come down so sweet and pure
Water fields and growth assure
But blights and pest this year detour
Let blessings fall and faith endure

Thanksgiving for his crops assure

Many thanks to susanlen for this fine picture of a Rapeseed field.

Rapeseed is grown in many countries, however mainly in Europe. It is commonly known as Canola. It is also very much like the mustard plant. Many countries are using the oil, not only in edible forms but as the primary ingredient in bio-diesel. Additionally the bi-product that is left after pressing serves as high protein cattle feed. This information is available on the Internet, if you would care to learn more about the growing of Rapeseed. :-) Carolyn
