An Easter sonnet

True Meaning

by jandeck

The true meaning of Easter is now clear
Christ died for our sins on the cross, alone
Suffered and died for what He held so dear
For the sins of mankind, He did atone

When we are small, we hunt gay Easter eggs
The Cadbury bunny leaves lots of treats
Mom cooks ham, sweet yams, and lamb's tender legs
Children get baskets with a lot of sweets

After breakfast, together we go to church
The sun streams through the beautiful stained glass
We listen, pray, and silently soul search
We sing songs of praise at the end of Mass

Later,reflection illuminates the heart
In knowing our Savior is not apart
