Early morning burst of sunshine lights up the path
which I have chosen to travel, applying a hint of warmth
on my short cut into town, hoping to arrive before rain sets in.

Beautiful rich vibrant colours all around me,
a cool breeze blowing, a definite sign Autumn is
preparing nature to welcome in long wintry days .

Crossing an open field cows are grazing in the distance,
hurriedly I head towards the rusty gate just ahead,
broken lock, kept closed by rope looping two posts.

Excited about picking up a special gift, a little kitten,
I hasten my pace as the ray of sunshine looses it's fight
disappearing behind dark rain clouds forming.

Walking along cobbled stoned path no one else in sight,
I come across a large tree no longer in bloom,
telling me the story of changing seasons.

I listen to birds singing winter songs to each other
while busily gather broken twigs and dry leaves,
building their nests for winter warmth.

Passing under gnarled tree branches a gust of wind
forces falling leaves to brush against my face,
before landing softly on the cold ground.

Ahead a golden pathway of withered nature
now crackling under my footsteps,
interrupting my silent contemplation.
