Back Seat Driven
by Debra White
Heading out...
The preacher perches
on his passenger seat pulpit
spouting wisdom and warning
Silently
I nod my head
clench my teeth
commit each and every word to memory -
storing it
for future reference
Returning...
The king of the road lounges
in his throne
bumper to bumper
with the car in front
I remind him
of this morning's sermon
Silently
It goes down
as anticipated
