Dancing in the Grass

by pathofthewind

I'm running in a circle.

Running away from the tick..tick.

I look back and that time has rushed past me.

I look forward and rush to catch it before it leaves,

But a little voice inside me says to stand still.

My racing heartbeat reaches back to normal.

As my eyes adjust I notice how beautiful the moon is.

The migraine for the future and the ache of my past seep away.

I sit down.

The grass is past my shoulders, when did it grow so long?

I lay on my back and line my vision toward the stars.

Here I lay, me….just me.

I look at the big dipper or wait is that Mars?

“You don't need anyone or anything”, these thoughts plant inside my mind.

A little buzzing rings in my ear.

A blue and white butterfly flap toward me.

I grab onto their wings and we fly towards the sky.

I take my tongue and drag it across the Milky Way.

I grab Saturn's ring and wrap it around my finger.

Running and chasing isn't for me.

I'm gonna lie in this grass forever.

The butterflies fly away.

The milk has filled my stomach and my rings plenty big,

I am full.
