The Joy of Poetry
Poetry Contest
What does poetry mean to you? Why do you write poetry?
For this contest, I'd like a rhyming poem of at least three stanzas or more. It could be any rhymed poetic form, from a quartrain to a sonnet, villanelle, pantoum, rondel, triolet or any other rhymed form. Make it a double sonnet, double pantoum, etc. if you want to get creative.
NO FREE VERSE.
Example: this is a quartrain I wrote about poetry and its significance in my life:
Another blessed day that's spent with thee,
my poetry, the greatest joy on earth
We do belong together, you and me
Discovering you was my soul's rebirth.
~*~
Whatever ails me, to the pen I put,
the magic ink dissolving any ire
I thrive at gentle sounds of your flute
Your infinite perfection stirs my fire.
~*~
Like pearls in hidden oyster are your words
When they emerge, so lustrous is their shine
I play with them, make sure that they are heard
Oh poetry, the greatest star of mine.
The contest winner will win half of the prize pool of 180.00 member dollars. In this contest at least 2 submissions must be made for the vote to begin.
Deadline: Contest is closed. Deadline was Saturday, April 3, 2010.
