Revise Your Nanowrimo
The purpose of this contest is to build a fire under Y-O-U, so that novel you're always talking (or thinking) about becomes a fine, polished work of prose suitable for publishing. There are four rules: 1- Only new posts to the Fanstory site (site rules.) You can't repost something you've previously posted (that should be edited). 2-In the spirit of Nanowrimo, you must meet the 50,000 word requirement. 3-Your prologue or beginning chapter needs to be posted into the contest page by March 1st. 4- The book your chapter belongs to, must be marked complete by May 29th.
This is where the contest gets a bit hazy. Your entry does not need to be a Nanowrimo. It can be something you wrote twenty years ago or completely new material.
If you are in the middle of posting a novel on Fanstory, you can finish it and begin another as long as you meet the word requirement. But keep in mind the book you entered on the contest page is the one that will be judged. You could also go long. 50,000 words is short for a novel. Adding another 25,000+ words might make it more marketable. Everyone will be on the honor code here. It's too difficult to check word counts.
You have the month of February to prepare. Use it wisely. You can begin posting chapters under preview mode or in lock and key workshop any time you like. This contest is about revising and polishing. It might be a good idea to start saving member dollars to help with promoting. It will take some of the pressure off later.
March 1st you begin posting your chapters, and you will have three months to complete this challenge. Posting a chapter every three days with a word count of 1,500-2,000, is a realistic goal. If you choose to procrastinate, remember Fanstory only allows two posts per day.
Now ... who's up for this challenge?
The contest winner will win half of the prize pool which is based on the number of entries. The second and third place winners will each share the remaining prize pool. The prize pool is currently 110.00 member dollars. There are only 1 spots still open. If all open spots are used the prize pool will be 120.00 member dollars. In this contest at least 2 submissions must be made for the vote to begin.
Deadline: Contest is closed. Deadline was Saturday, May 29, 2010.
