Sad story - but you know those old fellas treasured their mount. And Molly was his friend. A good poem with pathos and reality in it. Good job - thanks for sharing.

There plenty people who prefer a pack mule to a jeep or truck. Believe me, a truck or jeep may break down, but they would never fall prey to a predator like a mountain lion, a bear or any such animal. Of course there is the occasional car thief to consider.

Very nice. I can relate to that from stories told to me by my great-grandfather. I was fortunate to have spoke to him a few years before he died. He was a sheriff on horseback in McDowell County WV. Thanks for opening up that memory. Best wishes.

I thoroughly enjoyed your story poem about that old prospector and his mule. I liked the dialect used. Your use of rhymed couplets was very effective. Good use of imagery to provide a good poetic portrait of that mule. Well done!

This is a touching story within a poem about a mule who was attacked and killed and the owner who loved her. The rhythm and rhyme work well in this piece. Thanks for sharing.

this needs six stars, but I only have five. Ones that this poem might remind people of may be few. there is one that comes to mind. No, two, well there may be more. You may like my website:www.havepenwilltravel.co

I love the slang of the old west. The rhymes and rhythm are flowing and a pleasure to read. My favorite part of this poem was the last 2 lines. Nice!

This a very poignant poem. I love the way it is written in cowboy language and the excellent rhyme. I think this will do very well in the competition. Good luck and best wishes. Jen.
