You did a great job with your contest entry. I agree with your notes. That would seem to be a safe place to walk--among those already dead. Cemeteries hold valuable clues and history on the markers. Your words do them justice. I like the use of alliteration, the way your words are descriptive with great imagery, and the beautiful picture. Thanks for sharing and best wishes. Respectfully, Jan

No one thinks about the past a time when life was worth living. Now everyone looks and finds death. This are my favorite lines. "The earth cracks a grave smile,/amused by mere Man's vanity --/his monumental insignificance./When Death itself is dead,/Life will still go on
somewhere." Like the dinosaurs, LisaMay

A very well-written poem about the photo taken of a grace stone that mark the buried place of someone who once walked this earth. The grave is the one certainty we will all face sooner or later while others go on with their lives.

Ran through my sixes too early since last night! Beautiful and philosophical poem. Loved the photo, too! My favorite lines were:
"The earth cracks a grave smile,
amused by mere Man's vanity --
his monumental insignificance."
I think this should do well in the contest!

Thanks for your wonderful review and the boost - much appreciated. I wish we had more 6s to bestow. I think folks will be writing more at the moment, and there will be even more excellent poems for us to appreciate.

LisaMay, you're lucky to have such a beautiful place for your restricted rambles. Your photo is well-supported by your unrhymed poem describing the transience of even the monuments to the dead. Well done. :) Nancy

This is a very nicely composed poem, Lisa. It's thoughtful and echoes what may be on the mind of those who've experienced an old graveyard, its reverence and its history. Your ending three lines are equally hopeful and desolate. Best of luck in the contest. Marilyn

Jam packed with marvelous imagery and alliteration. I love the chipped wings and rusted iron lace...daisied avenues....mottled marble mock... and the witty earth cracks a grave smile...that in itself earns your stars. Cheers. LIZ
Back with congrats on your well-deserved prize!

Hello Lisa!
An exceptionally well-executed poem that resonates with me deeply for I lived my entire childhood across the road a cemetery that was well over 200 years. Many of the tombstones were broken, but I spent countless hours there reading, visiting, writing... I can well appreciate why you would have been drawn there.
Hoping you are well and safe!
