So the Pony Express was one of those in one day and then discarded by progress. Nice little snippet about Jesse James. I tend to agree with the Traveller on that one.Really enjoyed the Traveller's thoughts you've shared in the final paragraphs, a good finish to this chapter Thomas.
cheers.

We tend to make heroes out of bandits. Jessie James was a product o dime store novels. Wait until you meet Kit Carson.

Hi Tom, this is a well written chapter on him moving on from the tribe. I like the inclusion of the Pony Express and the story of Jesse James.

This is interesting, and seems accurate. (I saw a Gene Autry movie about the last of the pony express riders.) That would have been a tough job. Same thing with riding shotgun for a stagecoach. It's hard to believe riding shotgun was boring. In the movies, stagecoaches were always being attacked by Indians or highwaymen. This is certainly a well written and informative chapter. judi

The attacks were actually rare. Thanks for reading.

It wouldn't have made an exciting western movie without an attack on a stagecoach or train. judi

I enjoyed reading this post also, the subject is interesting, the characters and the setting is definitely exciting and the reader's interest is maintained by the colorful presentation of the good old West and the conflict between the Indians and the White man is always action-packed. Thanks for sharing.

Hi again Thomas, here again I had not read any of your prior chapters but here again you literary abilities are in full regalia. Impressive too is your
knowledge of the "great West outdoors" which you surely must have
gained from personal life experience there. The photo lends affable affinity to the interesting story. Bravo.

Good morning again, Thomas: This chapter is very informative. I enjoyed the traveler's history as time went on and his employment ventures. The below were some of what really caught my attention in this chapter but it was all very well-written and interesting.

If they had come across me out here, the same Indians that I broke bread with the day before would kill me. (This is shocking and so sad...)

Wells Fargo discouraged drinking, but if you did drink, you were expected to share it with the passengers. I guess they wanted everybody sober or drunk. They didn't care which. (This is too funny)

I'm tempted not to but then I don't know if I could control myself enough to stay out of this site long enough to do all of what I need to do this year. This is the problem, as long as I am on this site I will continue to spend many hours on line per day and i really don't have this kind of time. Thank you for asking me to stay though. Many have expressed this to me. It really makes me want to stay. I will keep considering this until that very day.

Hi, Thomas

A very interesting chapter. One fact that surprised me was that the Pony Express was so short-lived. I'd never read that before.

I was amused at the way you described Wells Fargo's attitude on their employees' drinking, and the fact you had to share if you did drink. Another interesting plot point.

Look forward to more of the traveler's adventures.

Hi Tom. I can not imagine a more boring job than riding shotgun on a coach line, but robbing banks would have been a much quicker death sentence I imagine. I like this story and look forward to the next chapter.

Hello!

Chapter 11 is engrossing and informative. Not certain I would do well sleeping sitting up, but I can see how that would be reality for riders of the Pony Express. A well-crafted read.

Best Wishes,
diane

When I was attending Akron University I worked the midnight shift at a factory. You get pretty good at sleeping sitting up.
